Jacqueline Spizizen Earns UAA Softball Honor

Emory University freshman Jacqueline Spizizen (West Bloomfield, MI) has been recognized by the University Athletic Association as Pitcher of the Week following her efforts in games against Averett University and Berry College.

Spizizen, who appeared in four games, did not allow a run over 19 innings of work, striking out a total of 18 batters while issuing just three walks and surrendering 13 hits.

This past Sunday (Feb. 18) against No. 19-ranked Berry, Spizizen tossed back-to-back complete-game shutouts, giving up just three hits and fanning six in a 2-0 triumph in the first game of a twinbill. In the finale, she allowed nine hits and struck out four Vikings in raising her record to 3-1 on the year. Earlier in the week, she earned the win in the circle after tossing four scoreless innings of relief, striking out seven along the way, in a 1-0 decision over Averett.

Emory, 4-2 on the year, returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 24) when it hosts Covenant College in a doubleheader that begins at noon.
