Junior Toko Miller came through with a complete-game effort and the Emory offense came through with a pair of big innings in sparking the Eagles to a win in the second game and a split of a Thursday afternoon doubleheader at Christopher Newport.  After dropping the opener by a 7-5 count, the No. 23-ranked Eagles registered a 7-2 triumph leaving their record at 7-5 and the No. 6 Captains at 9-3.

Miller allowed seven hits and struck out four batters, while issuing just one walk, in raising her season record to 2-1.  She was bolstered by a nine-hit attack that was highlighted by sophomore Sam Feller collecting three safeties.  Miller got all the run support she needed in the top fourth when the Eagles crossed the plate four times.  With sophomore Greta Wilker on first base with two out, a single by Feller followed by a walk to sophomore Jessy McLean loaded the bases. Sophomore second baseman Sarah Katz then delivered a clutch two-run single that plated Wilker and Feller. Junior Sam Vincent then reached on a throwing error that allowed two more runs to score.  Emory blew the game wide open the following frame when Feller smacked a three-run homer, her first career blast, which would close out the game's scoring.  Emory's seven runs represented a season high while the nine hits tied a season best.

In the opener, sophomore Wilker got Emory on the board in the top of the first with her two-out double, scoring Cassie Baca.  After the Captains knotted the score in the half of the inning, the Eagles jumped out to a 4-1 lead following a three-run homer by freshman Allie Moberg, her first career round tripper. CNU answered with a four-run fourth inning with Leah Andrews delivering the big blow, a two-out, two-run triple that saw her cross the plate on the same play as a result of an Emory throwing error. CNU stretched its advantage to 7-4 after scoring twice in a hotly-contested fifth inning.  Emory rallied in the top of the seventh when Wilker singled in Sam Vincent with two outs while moving a runner to third in the process. However, pitcher Aubrey Bates got out of the jam to secure the win for CNU.

The Eagles return to action on Friday (Mar. 16) when they play a doubleheader at No. 1-ranked and undefeated Virginia Wesleyan (14-0) starting at 2:30 pm.
