The Emory softball team ventured to Birmingham Southern Wednesday evening where it dropped both games of a doubleheader.  The No. 18-ranked Panthers raised their overall record to 28-5 following a 4-1 victory in the opener followed by a 12-5 decision in the nightcap over the Eagles who now stand 21-7 on the year.

Junior Sami Feller and senior Jenna Wilson accounted for five of Emory's nine hits in the second game, with Feller going 3-for-4 at the plate while Wilson hit safely twice in four at-bats.  Wilson also scored a pair of runs and stole three bases, upping her career total to 65, just two shy of tying Cassie Walsh (2007-10) and Lauren Gorodetsky (2011-14) for first place on the school's all-time list.  Emory jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, ignited by a leadoff single by Wilson and her two subsequent stolen bases. After scoring Wilson via a fielder's choice, Greta Wilker eventually crossed the plate after a single by Feller compounded by a throwing error by the right fielder.  Feller finished off the scoring when she scampered home following a wild pitch.  The Eagles' lead was short-lived, however, as the Panthers put up three runs in the bottom of the frame, keyed by a two-run shot by Savannah Lee.  Emory saw BSC add three runs in the second inning before scrapping back with a score in the third when a one-out single by Wilker knocked Wilson in from third. The Eagles drew to within one run after crossing the plate on one occasion in their half of the fourth, courtesy of a one-out single by Natalie Arreguin that scored pinch runner Mallory Nolen, but that would be their final scoring of the game as the Panthers scored once in the fourth, twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth to seal the outcome. Jessica Perley got the win for BSC, raising her mark to 8-3, while Emory's Toko Miller saw her record dip to 7-2

In the opener, BSC's Haley Crumpton limited the Eagles to five hits in boosting her record to 11-2.  The Panthers did all their damage in the bottom of third with the big blow a one-out, three-run homer by Savannah Lee. Emory scored its run in the sixth after Sami Feller drew a one-out walk and then moved to second following a single by Greta Wilker.  A double by Mattie Ryan plated Feller and moved Wilker to third but Cumpton was able to get out of the jam by inducing a strike out and ground to end the inning. Sophomore Madison Schaefer took the defeat, just her second in 11 outings, throwing the first four innings while Toko Miller tossed two scoreless frames in relief.

Emory returns to action on Friday (Apr. 12) when it hosts New York University in the opening two of a four-game series. First pitch on Friday is at 2:00 pm
