Junior Greta Wilker and freshman Mattie Ryan came through with clutch extra-base hits during a four-run fifth inning in leading the Emory softball team to a second-game victory and a split of a Saturday Senior Day doubleheader vs. New York University.  The Eagles rallied for a 4-3 decision in the finale after NYU came away with a 5-2 win in the opener.  Emory now stands 23-9 in overall play, 9-3 in the University Athletic Association.

After spotting the Violets three runs in the top of the fifth, the Eagles roared back in their half of the frame.  With senior pinch runner Sam Vincent on second and senior outfielder Jenna Wilson on first, Wilker laced a two-out triple to right center that knocked in the first two tallies. Senior shortstop Cassie Baca then deadlocked the game with a single that scored Wilker.  Ryan accounted for what proved to be the final scoring with a two-base hit that propelled Baca around the bases. Sophomore pitcher Madison Schaefer raised her record to 10-3 after tossing 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

In the first contest, Baca collected two of Emory's five hits and recorded a RBI while Wilson, Sarah Katz and Wilker also hit safely. Emory got on the board in the bottom of the first when a ground out by junior Sami Feller pushed Wilson home.  After NYU took a 2-1 lead, a two-out single by Baca scored Wilker, tying things up a 2-2. However, the Violets crossed the plate twice in the fourth and once in the seventh to secure the outcome.  Senior Madeline Maday took the loss in the circle, dropping her season ledger to 6-3, after going the first three innings and allowing four runs, two of which were earned, and five hits.

Following the conclusion of the second game, Emory conducted Senior Day ceremonies with the contributions of Cassie Baca, Max Faass, Lana Herrmann, Toko Miller, Madeline Maday, Jenna Wilson and Sam Vincent being recognized.

Emory returns to action next Friday (Apr. 19) when it plays a doubleheader at Case Western Reserve.
