Emory Softball Drops Two Games in Triangle Classic

Emory Softball Drops Two Games in Triangle Classic

The Emory softball team dropped a pair of early-season games on its first road trip of the year in Apex, North Carolina. The Eagles fell to No. 2 Christopher-Newport, 5-3, to open the day and were unable to top Lynchburg in game two, coming up short against the Hornets, 7-4. Both games were played as a part of the William Peace Grand Slam Triangle Classic at the Middle Creek Softball Fields.

Emory, the sixth-ranked team in the country according to the latest NFCA Poll, was locked in a 2-2 tie with Christopher-Newport in the bottom of the second frame before senior Sami Feller ripped a solo home run to put her team up 3-2. However, the Captains would answer with a two-run shot of their own to take a 4-3 lead in the top half of the third inning. CNU would go on to push one more run across the plate and keep the Eagles in check the rest of the game, winning 5-3.

The Hornets of Lynchburg jumped out to an early lead in Emory's second game of the day. Lynchburg held a five-run advantage over the Eagles in the bottom of the third, a margin that would prove to be too much to overcome, as Emory could only muster four runs the rest of the way, losing 7-4.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 3rd, when the Covenant Scots venture to Cooper Field to compete in a mid-week doubleheader. The first game is slated for 2:00 p.m. and the second game will be played at 4:00 p.m.
