Emory Softball Takes Two At Huntingdon

Emory Softball Takes Two At Huntingdon

The Emory softball team broke out the bats Wednesday evening and posted a sweep at Huntingdon College.   The Eagles registered a five-inning 8-0 triumph in the opener before closing out the night with a 13-2 win in the finale.  Emory now stands 5-1 on the year while Huntingdon dropped to 7-15.

In the first contest, Mattie Ryan, Tyler Miller, Megan Weisenberg , Allie Moberg and Page Nellis all hit safely twice as the Eagles posted a 14-hit attack against the Hawks.  Moberg knocked in three runs while Greta Wilker logged a pair of RBIs. The Eagles broke open a 1-0 game in the top of the third, pushing across six runs while registering six hits.  Wilker got things going with a two-run double that plated Ryan and Miller while Moberg came through with a two-run producing single that scored Weisenberg and Wilker.  Holding a 7-0 advantage, Natalie Arreguin singled with one out and then proceeded to steal second base.  Moberg then scored Arreguin with a single through the right side.  Madison Schaefer went all five innings in securing the victory, allowing four hits while striking out five.

In the finale, Emory unleashed a 16-hit barrage with five players picking up two or more hits including Wilker, Weisenberg and Nellis, all of whom collected three safeties.  Trailing by a 2-0 margin, the Eagles took control of the game with a six-run fourth frame.  Weisenberg knocked in the first of her four RBIs in the uprising while Sami Feller delivered a two-run double.  Emory crossed the plate two more times the following inning, courtesy of a two-bagger by Nellis, to extend its lead to 8-2.  The Eagles tacked on five more runs in their half of seventh, all coming after the first two batters were retired.  Ryan smacked a two-run homer, her first of the season, to account for the first two runs while Wesienberg later added a three-run shot.  Schaefer pocketed the win, her fifth in as many decisions, coming on in relief of starter Natalie Swift and tossing four innings of hitless ball, fanning four and allowing just one walk.
