Emory Softball Lands Five On All-UAA Team

The Emory University softball team has placed five players on the 2021 All-University Athletic Association Team.

The Eagles saw a pair of seniors capture berths on the All-Association Team -- Krista Colussi (Nazareth, PA) and Madison Schaefer (Newton, MA). Rounding out the Emory representatives were juniors Megan Weisenberg (Seminole, FL) and Mattie Ryan (Atlanta, GA) and freshman Page Nellis (Suwanee, GA).

Colussi played her way to a second straight all-league honor, checking in with a hitting mark of .429 that ranks third on the squad.  In addition, Colussi has scored seven runs and chalked up seven RBIs, with those marks also good for the No. 3 slot on the team's scoresheet. The owner of four multi-hit games, she has driven in two or more runs on two occasions.  She was named UAA Hitter of the Week (Mar. 15) after hitting .857 (6-for-7) in a doubleheader vs. Covenant College.  In a 3-0 victory over Piedmont College (Apr. 27), she collected two hits in three plate appearances and totaled a pair of RBIS, including a solo homer.

Schaefer stands fifth among UAA pitchers in strikeout average per seven innings (6.00).  She tossed a complete-game shutout vs. Piedmont (4/27), allowing six hits while fanning five with no walks.  She picked up both wins in a doubleheader sweep of Huntingdon (Apr. 7), throwing a total of nine scoreless frames. She has crafted an ERA of 2.55 over 46 2/3 innings of action, fanning 40 opposing hitters while issuing just six walks.  It is the second time in her career that she has been recognized on the All-UAA Team.

Weisenberg captured her second straight nod on the All-UAA Team, sporting a fine .448 (13-for-29) performance in batter's box, good for second on the team and third in the league.  Weisenberg is first on the club with 11 RBIs and second with 13 hits. She has produced a team-high three contests with two or more ribbies and has five multi-hit contests.  She was tabbed UAA Hitter of the Week (Apr. 12) after hitting .714  in a DH sweep of Huntingdon, going 5-7 at plate, scoring 3 runs and knocking in a team-best 5 RBIs.

Ryan has been the team's most potent hitter, checking in with a conference-best .586 (17-for-29) batting average.  She leads the Eagles in multi-hit games (6), hits (17) and runs scored (10).  She went 5-for-5 at the plate, scored three runs and knocked in a run in a 15-4 decision over Covenant College (Mar. 11).  She came through with a three-hit outing and scored twice in an 8-1 triumph over Piedmont College (Mar. 20).  Her .724 slugging percentage ranks first on the team.

Nellis is fourth on the squad in hitting (.423, 11-for-26) and second with eight RBIs. She has delivered three multi-hit performances including a 3-for-4 contest, with a double and triple, and three RBIs in a 13-2 victory over Huntingdon.  She collected three knocks and a pair of RBIs in the second game of a twin bill against Piedmont (Apr. 27).

The Eagles are scheduled to return to action on May 12 when they play a doubleheader at No. 5-ranked Birmingham Southern.
