Senior guard Shellie Kaniut played a key role in helping the Emory women's basketball team get the season off to a 3-0 start.

The 5-foot-7 Kaniut averaged a team-high 15.0 points and 4.0 steals per game, while shooting 52.9 percent (18 of 34) from field, as the Eagles topped Oglethorpe in the season opener before posting a pair of victories at the Durgala Memorial Classic hosted by Johns Hopkins University.

Kaniut was named MVP of the Durgala Classic after leading all players with a career-high tying 23 points, hitting eight-of-12 from the floor, including both of her three-point attempts, in a 67-63 win decision over Johns Hopkins before chalking up 16 points in 18 minutes of action in a win over Trinity Washington University (DC), ending that affair converting eight-of-12 from the floor.  In addition, she also came up with five steals in the Trinity contest.
