Emory Women's Basketball Gearing Up For UAA Road Weekend

GAME FACTS – The Emory women's basketball team will face its first University Athletic Association road action this weekend, playing at New York University on Friday (Jan. 19) evening, followed by a Sunday afternoon match-up at Brandeis.  The Hunter College Sportsplex will serve as the site of the 58th meeting between the Eagles and Violets, with tip scheduled for 6:00 pm.  Auerbach Arena on the Brandeis campus will provide the backdrop for the 58th meeting between the Judges and Emory and that game is slated for a 2:00 pm start.

THE COACHES – Interim Head Coach Misha Jackson (Emory, '13) was appointed to her current post in October of this year, following the resignation of Christy Thomaskutty.  Jackson had served as an assistant on the Eagles' staff since the 2013-14 season.  She played three seasons in an Eagle uniform (2010-11 through 2012-13), seeing action in a total of 78 games, 69 in a starting capacity. She closed out her career ranked among the program's top-10 all-time performers in 11 categories.

Jackson is assisted by Lauren Rothfeld and Chuck Melito.

Lauren Hall-Gregory (Hofstra, '03) is in her sixth season at the helm of the NYU program.  Heading into the Emory game, she has posted a school record of 93-53, which includes three trips to the NCAA D-III Tournament.

In her 31st campaign patrolling the sidelines at Brandeis is Carol Simon (Colby, '85). During her tenure, Simon has compiled 431 victories including a 234-143 mark over the past 15 years.

2017-18 RECORDS – Emory holds an overall record of 8-6 (2-1 UAA).  The Eagles are coming off a productive weekend that saw them earn a pair of home conference wins, defeating Carnegie Mellon, 68-62, on Friday before coming away with a 64-47 triumph over Case Western on Sunday. 

Junior Ashley Oldshue keyed the win over the Carnegie Mellon by establishing career highs with 28 points and 17 rebounds, with her board total tying the program's 10th-highest individual game total.  Classmate Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds in the CMU contest before leading all players with 16 points in the decision over Case Western. 

Emory is 5-4 at the Woodruff PE Center and 3-2 in road contests.

NYU stands 8-6 in overall action, 1-2 in league play.  The Violets dropped a pair of road games last weekend, 83-59 to Chicago and 84-69 to Washington University.  NYU is 4-3 in home outings and 4-3 in road contests.

Brandeis checks into a Friday night home encounter against No. 7 Rochester with an overall ledger of 9-4, 1-2 in the conference.  The Judges split a pair of road games last weekend, upending Washington University, 92-84, on Friday before dropping a 72-63 verdict to Chicago.

SERIES RECORDS – In a series that began in January of 1989, NYU holds an all-time record of 41-16 against Emory. The teams split last year's two contests, with Emory manufacturing a 78-75 victory in Atlanta and the Violets a 67-61 triumph in New York. NYU stands 23-5 against the Eagles in games contested on its home floor.

Emory claims a 30-27 edge in the series with Brandeis which began in January of 1989.  The schools split last year's two meetings, with Emory prevailing, 61-50, at the Woodruff PE Center before the Judges posted a 61-59 triumph at Auerbach Arena. Brandeis is 16-12 vs. Emory is games played on its home court.

EMORY TRIO TO SERVE AS CAPTAINS – Serving as captains of the 2017-18 Emory women's basketball team are junior Ashley Oldshue (Glenview, IL), and sophomores Allison Chernow (Dresher, PA) and Erin Lindahl  (Yardley, PA).

OLDSHUE TOPS EAGLES IN SCORING AND REBOUNDING – Ashley Oldshue's career-high 28 points in the team's victory over Carnegie Mellon represented her 10th double-figure performance of the year tied the program's 16th-highest individual game total. 

The Eagles' top scorer on seven occasions this year, Oldshue is tossing in a team-high 16.5 points per game, good for fifth place among UAA performers.

She has converted a league-best 56.2 percent (77-137) of her field goal opportunities with that effort 18th among all D-III players (through Jan. 15), and has sank 50 percent or better from the floor in eight contests.   Emory's leading rebounder in six outings, her 8.7 per-game average is good for the No. 4 spot on the UAA ladder. Included in her rebounding totals is a 3.0 per-game average on the offensive glass, good for third place among conference players.

Career-wise, she has registered 36 double-figure scoring performances and had a 30-game streak of 10 or more points snapped in the Oglethorpe (Jan. 2) contest. She also holds down the school's No. 2 position in career field goal percentage (.536, 260-of-485).

JACKSON-SHERROD A CONSISTENT FORCE
 – Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod was solid in the Eagles' two wins over the weekend, averaging 15.0 points and 7.5 rebounds, with both marks ranking second on the squad.  In addition, she was successful on 53.6 percent (15-28) of her field goal opportunities.

After contributing 14 points against CMU, Jackson-Sherrod topped the Emory scoring attack for the fourth time this year when she delivered a 16-point outing against Case Western, connecting on eight-of-14 field goal opportunities.  It was her eighth straight and 12th double-digit scoring effort of the season.   Over her last eight outings, she is averaging 13.8 points and shooting 51.9 percent (53-102) from the floor.

One of two players on the team to have drawn starting nods in all 14 games, she is second on the club and 12th on the UAA scoring chart (12.6 ppg).  Jackson-Sherrod has been one of the team's most efficient shooters, nailing 48.6 percent (84-173) of her field goal attempts, good for second place on the team and fifth in the conference. She has been successful on 50 percent or better from the floor in 10 contests

TSE DIRECTING EMORY OFFENSIVE ATTACK – Sophomore Lindsey Tse tied her career high as well as the program's fifth-highest individual game total when she dished out 11 assists in the 64-47 decision over Case Western. It was the second time this season (vs. Belhaven, Nov. 18) and third of her career that she had recorded an 11-assists contest, with that total the high-water mark by an UAA player so far this year.

Tse, who has dished out seven or more assists in six games, holds down the top spot in the UAA and ranks 13th in the D-III (through Jan. 15) in assists average (5.9 apg).  In addition, her 2.4 assist/turnover ratio is first in the league and 16th nationally.

Entering the upcoming weekend, Tse has 190 career assists to her credit, good for 13th place on the school's all-time list.

NUMBERS TO NOTE – Emory outrebounded both Carnegie Mellon (49-26) and Case Western (44-40) and has enjoyed an edge in that department in five of the last six and in a total of nine games this year … The Eagles rank fourth in the UAA in rebounding margin in overall play (+3.4) and stand second in league action (+13.3) … Freshman Lynn Johnson recorded a season-high 13 points (her second double-figure effort of the season) in the Case Western contest, highlighted by her sinking a season-high four three-point field goals … Emory shot a season-high 86.4 percent (19-22) from the foul line in the Carnegie Mellon game … The Eagles came up with 11 steals in the CMU contest, their fifth game of the year with double figures in that category …  Sophomore Erin Lindahl has turned in nine performances of double-digit scoring and ranks third on the club and 15th in the UAA in scoring average (11.5 ppg) … Lindahl's team-high eight rebounds in the Case Western contest represented the third time this season she ranked as the squad leader in that department …  Emory is shooting 44.1 percent (220-499) from the floor in its eight wins and 33.7 percent (137-406) in its six setbacks … The Eagles have outshot eight opponents from the floor and hold a 6-2 record in those games … Emory reserves have outscored the opposition subs in 10 games … The Eagles grabbed a season-high 23 offensive boards in the CMU game and have 10 or  more O-boards in 12 contests this year … Freshman Blair Ripley is 18th in the UAA in rebound average (5.1 rpg) … Emory has won its last 22 games when scoring 80 or more points … Emory has won 46 of its last 63 and 62 of its last 82 home games … The first quarter has been kind to the Eagles as they own a 17.0-14.3 scoring advantage in that frame … The Eagles have outscored the opposition in 29 quarters while being outpointed in 25 (two quarters have been tied) … The opposition has scored 20 or more points in a quarter on 12 occasions compared to 11 for the Eagles.
