GAME FACTS – The Emory women's basketball team faces its second straight weekend of University Athletic Association action when it squares off against Carnegie Mellon on Friday (Feb. 9) followed by a Sunday contest against Case Western Reserve.
Skibo Gymnasium on the CMU campus will serve as the venue for the 59th meeting between the Tartans and Eagles, with the game slated to start at 6:00 pm. On Sunday, the scene shifts to Horsburgh Gymnasium on the Case Western campus for the 50th match-up between the Spartans and Eagles, which will start at 1:00 pm.
THE COACHES – Interim Head Coach Misha Jackson (Emory, '13) was appointed to her current post in October of this year, following the resignation of Christy Thomaskutty. Jackson had served as an assistant on the Eagles' staff since the 2013-14 season. She played three seasons in an Eagle uniform (2010-11 through 2012-13), seeing action in a total of 78 games, 69 in a starting capacity. She closed out her career ranked among the program's top-10 all-time performers in 11 categories.
Jackson is assisted by Lauren Rothfeld and Chuck Melito.
Jacquie Hullah (Penn State, '84) is in her seventh season at the helm of the Carnegie Mellon program. Heading into the Emory game, she has posted a school record of 97-80, which includes a trip to the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Now in her 19thyear as a head coach, Hullah has registered a career mark of 254-235.
In her 11th campaign patrolling the sidelines at Case Western Reserve is Jennifer Reimer (Lycoming, '94). Reimer has six winning seasons to her credit while compiling 124 wins. In 21 years as a head coach, Reimer posts a career ledger of 281-246.
2017-18 RECORDS – Emory posts an overall record of 10-10, including a 4-5 effort in the UAA. The Eagles are looking to shake a four-game losing streak that includes road losses this past weekend to No. 16-ranked Chicago (72-63) and Washington University (75-63).
Junior Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod led the Emory scoring effort in the Chicago contest with 16 points, sinking six-of-10 from the floor and converting four free throws, while sophomore Erin Lindahl chipped in 13 points. Junior Ashley Oldshue paced four Eagle double-figure scorers against Wash U, notching 18 points and tying freshman Blair Ripley for the team lead with nine boards. Ripley also finished with a season-high tying 13 points.
Emory is 5-6 at the Woodruff PE Center and 5-4 in road contests.
Carnegie Mellon stands 9-11 overall and has lost its last eight outings, dropping its conference ledger to 1-8. Last weekend, the Tartans hosted came out on the short end of games against New York University (68-63) and Brandeis (60-52). CMU is 2-6 at home and 7-5 in road/neutral contests.
Case Western Reserve hosts No. 20 Rochester on Friday with an overall ledger of 4-15, 1-8 in the conference. The Spartans split a pair of home dates last weekend, upending Brandeis, 73-70, and losing, 67-62, to New York University.
SERIES RECORDS – In a series that began in December of 1988, Emory holds an all-time record of 37-21 against Carnegie Mellon. The Eagles captured the initial meeting of the season, 68-62, thanks in part to a career-high 28 points, 17-rebounds effort from Ashley Oldshue. Emory posts a 15-14 record in games played on the Tartans' home floor and has won the last three outings at Skibo Gymnasium.
Case Western has won 26 of the 49 contests between the two schools, though Emory has won the last three match-ups. CWRU claims a 16-9 mark against Emory in games played on its home floor.
EMORY TRIO TO SERVE AS CAPTAINS – Serving as captains of the 2017-18 Emory women's basketball team are junior Ashley Oldshue (Glenview, IL), and sophomores Allison Chernow (Dresher, PA) and Erin Lindahl (Yardley, PA).
OLDSHUE TOPS EAGLES IN SCORING AND REBOUNDING – Ashley Oldshue's team-high 17-point outing vs. Wash U last Sunday represented the 10th time this year she had either led or tied for squad scoring honors, while marking her 14th double-figure performance in 18 contests.
Heading into Carnegie Mellon, Oldshue is tossing in a team-high 15.3 points per game in overall action, good for sixth place among UAA performers. She has converted a league-best 53.5 percent (106-198) of her field goal opportunities, with that effort 32nd among all D-III players (through Feb. 4), and has sank 50 percent or better from the floor in 10 contests.
Emory's leading rebounder on 11 occasions, her 9.0 per-game average is good for the No. 4 spot on the UAA ladder. Included in her rebounding totals is a 3.1 per-game average on the offensive glass, good for third place among conference players. In conference tilts, Oldshue holds down the No. 3 position on the league chart in rebounding (9.4 rpg).
Career-wise, she has registered 40 double-figure scoring performances and had a 30-game streak of 10 or more points snapped in the Oglethorpe (Jan. 2) contest. She also holds down the school's No. 3 position in career field goal percentage (.529, 289-of-546). In the rebounding department, her nine caroms against Wash U boosted her career total to 416, good for a 17th place on the Eagles' all-time chart.
JACKSON-SHERROD A CONSISTENT FORCE – Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod put up 16 points in last Friday's Chicago contest, her team-high 15th double-figure scoring effort of the campaign.
The team's top scorer on six occasions this year, she is one of two Eagles who have drawn starting nods in all 20 games and stands second on the club and 12th on the UAA scoring chart (12.7 ppg). Jackson-Sherrod has been one of the team's most efficient shooters, nailing 49.8 percent (120-241) of her field goal attempts, good for second place on the team and third in the conference. She has been successful on 50 percent or better from the floor in 14 contests.
TSE DIRECTING EMORY OFFENSIVE ATTACK – Sophomore Lindsey Tse came through with a solid performance in the Wash U game on Sunday, totaling 12 points, her fifth double-figure performance of the year, and doling out seven assists, her ninth outing of seven or more this season.
Tse enters the upcoming weekend No. 1 in the UAA and 12th in the D-III ranks in assists average (6.0 apg). In addition, she owns an assist/turnover ratio of +2.2 which places her second on the UAA chart.
Career-wise, Tse has compiled 227 assists with that mark slotting her 10th on the school's all-time list just one from tying Christie Howard (1996-00) for ninth place and three from knotting Selena Castillo's (2010-14) No. 8 mark of 230.
NUMBERS TO NOTE – Erin Lindahl enters the Friday meeting with Carnegie Mellon with a four-game double-figure scoring streak that has seen her average 15.0 points in that stretch … Lindahl has registered 14 games of double-digit point production and her 11.7 points-per-game average is third on the squad and 16th among UAA players … Lindahl stands 16th on the league ladder in scoring average in UAA games with an 11.0 per-game effort … Freshman Blair Ripley led the team in rebounding for the third time when she registered a season-high tying nine boards in the Wash U game – four of her boards came on the offensive end of the floor, boosting her total to 37, good for a second-place tie on the team … Ripley finds herself 19th on the UAA list in overall rebounding average (4.8 rpg), and she has finished with six or more rebounds on eight occasions … Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod (5.9 rpg) and Erin Lindahl (5.8 rpg) rank 12th and 13th, respectively, among UAA players in overall rebound average … Through nine league games, Emory ranks third in the UAA in field goal percentage defense (.373) and fourth in scoring defense (65.3 ppg) … The Eagles rank first in the UAA in blocked shots (5.8 bpg) for conference contests … The Eagles have six games with 10 or more steals this season … The Eagles have held 11 opponents to less than 40 percent from the field this year (6-5) … Emory is shooting 43.6 percent (267-612) from the floor in its 10 wins and 36.1 percent (233-645) in its 10 setbacks … The Eagles have outshot 12 opponents from the floor and hold an 8-4 record in those games … Emory has attempted more free throws than the opposition in four games and claims a 3-1 slate in those contests … In games where opponents have attempted more from the stripe, Emory stands 5-9 (Eagles are 2-0 when free throw totals are tied) … Emory reserves have outscored the opposition subs in 15 games … The Eagles have 10 or more O-boards in 17 contests this year … Emory has won its last 22 games when scoring 80 or more points … Emory has won 46 of its last 65 and 62 of its last 84 home games … The Eagles have outscored the opposition in 37 quarters while being outpointed in 40 (three quarters have been tied) … Opponents have scored 20 or more points in a quarter 18 times compared to Emory's 14.
