Emory Women's Basketball Closes Out Home Schedule With Dates vs. NYU & Brandeis

GAME FACTS – After playing its last four games on the road, the Emory women's basketball team closes out the home portion of the schedule this weekend when it entertains New York University on Friday (Feb. 16) and Brandeis on Sunday.

The Woodruff PE Center on the Emory campus will serve as the venue for the 59th meeting between the Eagles and NYU, with the game slated to start at 6:00 pm.  On Sunday, Brandeis invades Atlanta for the 59th match-up between the two schools, which is slated for a 2:00 pm tip.

THE COACHES – Interim Head Coach Misha Jackson (Emory, '13) was appointed to her current post in October of this year, following the resignation of Christy Thomaskutty.  Jackson had served as an assistant on the Eagles' staff since the 2013-14 season.  She played three seasons in an Eagle uniform (2010-11 through 2012-13), seeing action in a total of 78 games, 69 in a starting capacity. She closed out her career ranked among the program's top-10 all-time performers in 11 categories.

Jackson is assisted by Lauren Rothfeld and Chuck Melito. 

Lauren Hall-Gregory (Hofstra, '03) is in her sixth season at the helm of the NYU program.  Heading into the Emory game, she has posted a school record of 98-56, which includes three trips to the NCAA D-III Tournament.

In her 31st campaign patrolling the sidelines at Brandeis is Carol Simon (Colby, '85). During her tenure, Simon has compiled 434 victories including a 237-148 mark over the past 15 years.

2017-18 RECORDS – Emory posts an overall record of 12-10, including a 6-5 effort in the UAA.  The Eagles are coming off a productive weekend that saw them come away with two road victories, 66-64 against Carnegie Mellon last Friday followed by a 73-62 decision over Case Western Reserve on Sunday.

Junior Ashley Oldshue led the Emory scoring effort in the Carnegie Mellon contest with a game-high 22 points, sinking eight-of-12 from the floor and converting six free throws, while pulling down a game-high tying nine rebounds.  Sophomore Erin Lindahl paced four Eagle double-figure scorers against Case Western, notching 20 points, 12 coming in the final stanza, and tying for team honors with six boards.

Emory is 5-6 at the Woodruff PE Center and 7-4 in road contests.

NYU comes to town with an overall ledger of 13-9, which includes a 6-5 effort in league play. The Violets, winners of five of their last six contests, split a pair of home decisions last weekend, dropping a 59-47 outcome to Chicago before bouncing back to capture an 82-79 triumph over Washington University.   NYU is 6-3 in road/neutral contests.

Brandeis travels to Rochester on Friday with an overall record of 12-9, 4-7 in the conference. The Judges start the weekend with setbacks in three of their last four endeavors, which includes losses to Wash U (90-54) and Chicago (81-56) last weekend. BU stands 4-4 in road/neutral games and is 8-5 at home.

SERIES RECORDS – In a series that began in January of 1989, NYU holds an all-time record of 41-17 against Emory. The Eagles posted a win in the first meeting of this season (Jan. 19), 69-64, with Oldshue leading the way with 16 points and 16 rebounds. The Violets have been victorious in 18 of the 29 games played on the Eagles' home floor, though Emory has won the last two at the Woodruff PE Center.

Emory claims a 31-27 edge in the series with Brandeis which began in January of 1989. 
The Eagles have won three of the last four encounters against the Judges, including this year's 53-39 verdict in Waltham, Mass. Emory claims a 18-11 record against Brandeis in games contested on its home floor and has won the last three at the Woodpec.

EMORY TRIO TO SERVE AS CAPTAINS – Serving as captains of the 2017-18 Emory women's basketball team are junior Ashley Oldshue (Glenview, IL), and sophomores Allison Chernow (Dresher, PA) and Erin Lindahl  (Yardley, PA).

OLDSHUE TOPS EAGLES IN SCORING AND REBOUNDING – Ashley Oldshue's team-high 22-point night vs. Carnegie Mellon last Friday represented the 11th time this year she had either led or tied for squad scoring honors, and marked her fifth performance of 20 or more points

A double-figure scorer in 16 of her 20 appearances, Oldshue is tossing in a team-high 15.7 points per game in overall action, good for fifth place among UAA performers. She has converted a league-best 55.0 percent (120-218) of her field goal opportunities, with that effort 22nd among all D-III players (through Feb. 12), and has sank 50 percent or better from the floor in 12 contests.   

Emory's leading rebounder on 12 occasions, her 8.9 per-game average is good for the No. 4 spot on the UAA ladder. Included in her rebounding totals is a 3.1 per-game average on the offensive glass, good for third place among conference players.  In conference tilts, Oldshue holds down the No. 3 position on the league chart in rebounding (9.1 rpg).

Career-wise, she has registered 42 double-figure scoring performances and had a 30-game streak of 10 or more points snapped in the Oglethorpe (Jan. 2) contest. She also holds down the school's No. 3 position in career field goal percentage (.535, 303-of-566).  In the rebounding department, her 15 boards over the weekend boosted her career total to 431, good for 16th place on the Eagles' all-time chart.

JACKSON-SHERROD A CONSISTENT FORCE
 – Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod put up back-to-back outings of double-figure scoring in last weekend's games, including a 14-point afternoon vs. Case Western Reserve that represented her team-high 17th double-figure scoring performance of the season.  

The team's top scorer on six occasions this year, she is one of two Eagles who have drawn starting nods in all 22 contests and stands second on the club and 12th on the UAA scoring chart (12.6 ppg).  Jackson-Sherrod has been one of the team's most efficient shooters, nailing 49.4 percent (132-267) of her field goal attempts, good for second place on the team and third in the conference. She has been successful on 50 percent or better from the floor in 15 contests.  In conference action, she is scoring at a 13.2 points-per-game clip, good for 12th place on the UAA ladder, and her 49.3 percent showing (70-142) from the field ranks fourth.

TSE DIRECTING EMORY OFFENSIVE ATTACK – Sophomore Lindsey Tse registered a brilliant weekend of point-guard play last weekend, doling out a total of 16 assists with no turnovers while logging 72 minutes of action. She dished out nine dimes against CWRU, tying her third-highest total of the campaign and moving her season mark to 135, good for a fourth-place tie on the school's seasonal ladder.

Tse, who has 11 outings of seven or more assists to her credit this year, enters the upcoming weekend No. 1 in the UAA and 7th in the D-III ranks in assists average (6.1 apg).  Over the past three games, she has compiled 23 assists with just one turnover.
In addition, she owns an assist/turnover ratio of  +2.4 which places her second on the UAA chart and ninth nationally.

Career-wise, Tse has compiled 243 assists with that mark slotting her 8th on the school's all-time list just six from tying Selena Castillo (2012-16) for eighth place and 14 from knotting Hillary Burdette's (1989-92) No. 6 mark of 257.

LINDAHL ON A STREAK -- Erin Lindahl enters the Friday meeting with NYU with a six-game double-figure scoring streak that has seen her average 14.8 points in that stretch.  Sunday's team-high 20-point effort against Case Western represented her second-highest career point total and was the second time as an Eagle that she reached the 20-point plateau.

Heading into the weekend, Lindahl, who has registered 16 games of double-digit point production, is third on the squad and tied for 14th on the UAA scoring ladder with a 12.2 points per game average.  In league play, Lindahl is 14th on the UAA scoring derby list (12.3 ppg).

NUMBERS TO NOTE –  Freshman Blair Ripley posted her sixth double-figure scoring performance of the season when she finished with a season-high tying 13 points against Case Western Reserve … In her last three games, Ripley is averaging 11.7 points and shooting 50 percent (12-24) from the field … Ripley is tied for the No. 2 spot on the team with 41 offensive rebounds and is deadlocked with Erin Lindahl for the No. 12 spot on the league ladder in O-boards per contest (1.9 orpg) … Ripley finds herself 18th on the UAA list in overall rebounding average (4.9 rpg), and she has finished with six or more rebounds on nine occasions … Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod and Erin Lindahl are tied for 13th place among UAA players in overall rebound average (5.9 rpg) … Emory recorded 20 assists in the Case Western contest, a high for a league game this season and the fourth time during the campaign that it had doled out 20 or more … In the last three games, Emory reserves have outpointed the opposition subs by a 52-27 margin … Through 11 league games, Emory ranks fourth in the UAA in field goal percentage defense (.376) and third in scoring defense (64.9 ppg) … The Eagles are tied for first in the UAA in blocked shots (5.4 bpg) for conference contests … The Eagles have six games with 10 or more steals this season … The Eagles have held 13 opponents to less than 40 percent from the field this year (8-5) … Emory is shooting 43.9 percent (322-733) from the floor in its 12 wins and 36.1 percent (233-645) in its 10 setbacks … The Eagles have outshot 14 opponents from the floor and hold an 10-4 record in those games … Emory has attempted more free throws than the opposition in five games and claims a 4-1 slate in those contests … In games where opponents have attempted more from the stripe, Emory stands 6-9 (Eagles are 2-0 when free throw totals are tied) … Emory reserves have outscored the opposition subs in 17 games … The Eagles have 10 or  more O-boards in 18 contests this year … Emory has won its last 22 games when scoring 80 or more points … Emory has won 46 of its last 65 and 62 of its last 84 home games … The Eagles have outscored the opposition in 43 quarters while being outpointed in 42 (three quarters have been tied) … Opponents have scored 20 or more points in a quarter 19 times compared to Emory's 15.
