Emory Women's Basketball Opens 2018-19 At Home vs. Oglethorpe

GAME FACTS – The Emory women's basketball team opens the program's 31ST season of intercollegiate action on Monday (Nov. 12) when it hosts South Region foe Oglethorpe University.  The Woodruff PE Center will serve as the site for the 41st meeting between the Eagles and the Stormy Petrels with tip scheduled for 6:00 pm.

THE COACHES – Head Coach Misha Jackson (Emory, '13) starts her second season at the helm of the Eagles' program.  Named Interim Head Coach in October of 2017, she guided the Eagles to a 13-12 slate last season, which included a 7-7 mark in University Athletic Association play, the highest win total in league play since 2013. She then had the Interim tag removed in March of this year.

Jackson joined the Eagles' staff as an assistant prior to the start of the 2013-14 season.  She played three seasons in an Eagle uniform (2010-11 through 2012-13), seeing action in a total of 78 games, 69 in a starting capacity. She closed out career ranked among the program's top-10 all-time performers in 11 categories.

Jackson is assisted by Sammi Goldsmith and Chuck Melito.

Alex Richey (Oglethorpe, '11) starts his fifth season in calling the shots for the Oglethorpe program, and will bring a school and career ledger of 60-49 into Monday's contest. Last season Richey saw his squad post an overall record of 21-8 that included a Southern Athletic Association championship and the program's first berth to the NCAA Tournament since 2008-09.

2017-18 RECORDS – Emory wound up the 2017-18 season with an overall record of 13-12, the program's sixth winning campaign in the past seven years.  The Eagles stood 6-7 in home dates and 7-5 in road/neutral settings.

Oglethorpe compiled a won-lost mark of 21-8 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008-09, losing to eventual national semifinalist Thomas More in the opening round. The Stormy Petrels captured the SAA regular-season crown with an 11-3 effort and then proceeded to win the league's tourney title.

SERIES RECORDS – In a series that saw the first game played in January of 1992, Emory posts an all-time record of 31-9 against Oglethorpe. Last year, the Stormy Petrels ended a five-game skid to Emory by landing a 75-60 triumph on their home court.  The Eagles have won the last five and stand 19-2 vs. Oglethorpe in games that have been played at the Woodruff PE Center.

EMORY TRIO TO SERVE AS CAPTAINS – Serving as captains of the 2018-19 Emory women's basketball team are senior Ashley Oldshue (Glenview, IL), and juniors Lindsey Tse (Calabasas, CA) and Erin Lindahl (Yardley, PA).

EMORY AND SEASON OPENERS – Heading into the game against Oglethorpe, Emory posts an all-time mark of 20-10 in season openers. The Eagles have claimed wins in five of the last six and in 10 of their last 13 season-opening games.  Last year, Emory came out on the short end of a 76-64 verdict to Rhodes College in its season opener, with Erin Lindahl pacing the team's scoring attack with a career-high 22 points while Ashley Oldshue grabbed a squad-best nine rebounds.

Monday's meeting will represent the fifth time that Oglethorpe has been Emory's season-opening foe with the Eagles winning the three of the previous four contests.

EMORY & HOME OPENERS – Emory has enjoyed a fair amount of success in home-opening contests, fashioning an all-time mark of 24-6 in those endeavors. Last year's setback to Rhodes ended a seven-game win streak in home openers for the Eagles.  Emory has won all four meetings when Oglethorpe has been the home-opening opponent.

OLDSHUE LOOKS FOR BANNER SEASONAshley Oldshue looks to turn in a big senior year after capturing her second straight first-team berth on the All-UAA team last season.  A third-team honoree to the D3hoops.com All-South Region last season, Oldshue ranked first on the team and fifth among UAA players in scoring average with a 15.9 points-per-game effort. The Eagles' leading scorer in 14 games, she totaled 20 or more points on six occasions.  She led the UAA with a 54.3 percent (140-of-258) mark from the field, placing her 23rd in the Division III ranks and sixth on the program's seasonal chart.

In the rebounding department, she pulled down a team-high 8.4 boards per outing, good for the No. 3 spot in the league. Oldshue finished as the club's top performer on the glass in 14 games and recorded eight contests with 10 or more boards.

JACKSON-SHERROD A KEY WEAPON – Senior Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod a second-team All-UAA pick in 2017-18, will be a key factor in the team's fortunes this year.

Last season, the 5-foot-9 Sherrod tied for second on the team and 14th on the UAA score sheet with a 12.2 points-per-game scoring average.  A double-figure scorer on 18 occasions, she ranked as the team's top point producer on six occasions. Azzairia was No. 3 on the UAA ladder with a 48.3 percent field goal percentage (145-of-298) mark, shooting 50 percent or better from the floor in 16 games.  In addition, she was second on the club and 11th among UAA players in rebounding (6.0 rpg), ranking as Emory's leader in that department on five occasions.

TSE BACK TO DIRECT THE OFFENSE – Junior point guard Lindsey Tse is back for another season running the Emory offense.

Already No. 6 on the program's all-time chart with 263 assists, Tse started all 25 games last year and topped the UAA while ranking sixth in the Division III ranks with a 6.2 assists-per-game average, with that mark a school season record as was her total of 155 assists.  She also tied for first in the conference and eighth nationally in assist/turnover ratio (2.4).   She logged a team-high average of 33.4 minutes per game (third in the UAA) and registered two contests of 10 or more assists.

LINDAHL SCORES AND BOARDS – After being named to the Honorable Mention all-UAA Team last season, junior Erin Lindahl looks to continue her solid all-around play this year.

A starter in 20 of her 25 appearances a year ago, Lindahl tied for second on the team and 14th among UAA players with a 12.2 points-per-game scoring average. She tied for the team lead with 19 double-figure scoring performances and paced the squad in scoring on six occasions. She grabbed an average of 5.7 rebounds per outing, placing her among the top 15 in the conference. She finished with four double-doubles (pts/rebs.).
