Women's Basketball Faces CMS, Pomona-Pitzer and Sewanee to Close Out November

The Emory University women's basketball team is set for three games in a five-day span before the team hits the Thanksgiving break. The Eagles, 3-0 to start the 2019-20 season, fly out to California to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer before returning to the southeast to oppose Sewanee on the road.

Tip off with the Athenas opens the stretch at 10:00 PM EST / 7:00 PM PST Friday night followed by a 6:00 PM EST / 3:00 PM PST start with the Sagehens Saturday evening and a 6:00 PM EST / 5:00 PM CST tip Tuesday night against the Tigers. Emory has gotten off to an impressive start, averaging 71.0 points per game while holding the opposition to under 52 points per contest. Senior Erin Lindahl has reached double-digits in all three games including a season-high 16 in the season opening win over Piedmont and enters the weekend ranked fifth in the UAA with her 13.0 PPG clip. Senior Allison Chernow (10.3) and junior Blair Ripley (10.0) have each averaged double figures through the first three games with sophomore Tori Huggins checking in ranked second in the conference at 9.0 rebounds per game. The Eagles are hitting 47.7 percent of their shots and shooting 45.2 from distance.

Head Coach Misha Jackson, now in her third year at the helm, has compiled an overall record of 35-19 and is joined on staff by Sammi Goldsmith and Chuck Melito.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas

CMS is 1-0 in its lone game of the year, defeating the University of Puget Sound, 61-59, in overtime this past Saturday. Lauren Longo led all CMS scorers with 11 points in 31 minutes and was joined in double figures by Gloria Bates' 10 off the bench. The Athenas, as a whole, return a veteran core that has captured six straight SCIAC championships.

CMS is under the leadership of Chanel Murchison who enters her first year with the team after serving as an assistant the past two seasons with Division I's William & Mary. She is joined on staff by Matthew Layman and Sherrie Session.

Friday marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens

The Sagehens have dropped their first two games to begin the year and are coming off a 20-point defeat to No.-8 ranked George Fox. Through two games, junior Renae Tamura leads all scorers with 11.5 points per game on a team that averages 58.5 per tilt to go along with team-highs in rebounds per game (6.0) and assists-to-turnover ratio (4.0). Sophomore Carly Leong checks in with 9.5 points per game on 36.8% shooting.

PPC is led on the sidelines by Interim Head Coach Alaina Woo and is joined on staff by assistants Raquel Viramontes and Jasmine Jenkins.

Saturday marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Sewanee Tigers

The Tigers will enter Tuesday's matchup with a 3-3 record and have won two straight over Johnson University Tennessee (66-38) and Covenant College (67-55). Sewanee is averaging just under 62 points per game at 61.8 while making 38.6% of their shots and shooting 26.8% from behind the three-point line. Sophomore guard Kinsley Logan is the lone Tigers averaging double-digits, coming in at 12.8 points per game on 37.9% shooting. Classmate Ellie Treanton checks in at 9.0 PPG to go along with a team-leading 7.3 RPG and 4.0 assists per game.

The Tigers have third-year Head Coach Tracey Braden calling the plays and has amassed an overall record of 20-34. She is joined on the bench by Alyssa Bailey.

Emory and Sewanee have met 46 times previously on the court with the Eagles leading the all-time series 36-10 and are 16-6 away from home. Emory has won 10 straight meetings dating back to 2010 and were 72-52 winners last year in Atlanta.
