Women's Basketball Rides Strong Second Half to 68-46 Win at Sewanee

For the second straight contest, the Emory University women's basketball team used an impressive second half to record a 20-plus point victory as the Eagles defeated Sewanee, 68-46, Tuesday night in Sewanee, TN.

What was a back-and-forth affair in the first half with the teams tied at the break, turned into a one-sided show across the final 20 minutes of play with the Eagles outscoring the Tigers 42-20. The teams traded buckets to open the third before an 11-0 burst by Emory, led by seven points from senior Allison Chernow, put the Eagles ahead for good. The 11-0 run morphed into a 28-5 run for the visitors that stretched 11:18 minutes of game action and included a 4:56-minute period in the third quarter where the Tigers were held scoreless.

The Eagles shot over 50% for the fourth time during the young season, shooting 25-for-48 from the floor and knocked down seven three-points in 20 attempts (35.0%). Emory added a large advantage on the glass, 39-22, and doled out 16 assists.

Junior Blair Ripley had an all-around great showing, registering a career-high 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. She added three blocks as she moved into sixth place on the Emory all-time list with 71 career rejections. Chernow joined Ripley in double figures, scoring a season-high 14 points to go along with four boards, two assists and one block. Nine of the 11 Eagles who dressed scored on the evening while senior Lindsey Tse led both sides with a season-high six assists in 22 minutes.

The Eagles head into the Thanksgiving break at 5-1 and will return to action next Tuesday, December 3rd, as the team travels across town to the black top on the campus of Oglethorpe University. Opening tip is scheduled for 6:00 PM in Brookhaven.
