Eagles Win Fourth Straight; Down Bates 62-45 to Close Out Non-Conference Slate

The Emory University women's basketball team ran its winning streak to four games Thursday afternoon as the Eagles closed out their non-conference portion of the schedule with a 62-45 victory over visiting Bates College at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

The Eagles will head into conference play with a 9-2 overall record while the Bobcats drop to 5-5 following the defeat. It's the team's fourth 9-2 start over the previous five seasons.

Three Eagles produced double-digit point totals on the afternoon, led by sophomore Tori Huggins who collected her second straight double-double, finishing with team-highs in both points (13) and rebounds (12). It is her fifth consecutive contest with 10 points or more and eighth of the year.

Joining Huggins in double figures was senior Erin Lindahl, who moved into 14th place on the Emory all-time list with 889 points following her 12-point outing, and junior Blair Ripley who flirted with a double-double in 19 minutes off the bench, producing 11 points and nine rebounds while adding three rejections. Junior Molly Weiss banked in two three-pointers for six points in a reserve role with sophomore Anna Arato tallying five points and corralling a career-best nine rebounds.

Bates got off to a quick start, holding a 15-11 advantage at the 3:01-minute mark but a 12-0 run from the Eagles over the next seven minutes of game action gave Emory the lead it would not relinquish. The Eagles gained a double-digit edge at 31-21 with 3:16 remaining in the second quarter and held a distance of at least nine points until the conclusion of the game.

Emory returns to the court Saturday, January 11th as the team hosts the University of Rochester in the University Athletic Association opener in Atlanta. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM inside the WoodPEC.
