No. 22/25 Women's Basketball Entertains Carnegie Mellon & CWRU at Home

The Emory University women's basketball team returns to the WoodPEC for the first double home weekend of the UAA schedule. The Eagles take on the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon Friday evening before facing Case Western Reserve Sunday afternoon.

Emory Eagles (12-2, 3-0 UAA)

Two key late, game-ending runs helped the Eagles to a 2-0 road trip this past week, pushing the team's season-high winning streak to seven games. Now 12-2 on the season and tied atop of the UAA standings at 3-0, Emory finds itself inside the two prominent top-25 national rankings, checking in at No.-22 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll and at No.-25 in the D3hoops.com poll.

Head Coach Misha Jackson has now guided her teams to 12 wins or more in her first three seasons at the helm, compiling an overall record of 44-21 (20-11 in UAA games) through her first 65 games as head coach. She is joined on staff by Sammi Goldsmith and Chuck Melito.

Senior Erin Lindahl, one of four Eagles averaging double figures in scoring, moved into 12th place all-time with 931 points and is 69 points away from becoming the 11th member of the 1,000-point club…Seniors Allison Chernow and Lindahl sit sixth and seventh on the program's all-time three-pointers totem pole with 113 and 110 made from distance, respectively…Chernow has converted her last 25 attempts from the free throw line, moving her into 11th place all-time with 177 made from the charity stripe…For the season, Chernow ranks fourth in the country with her 94.6 conversion rate from the line…Senior Lindsey Tse leads the Eagles with 42 assists this season, which places her second all-time in school history with 449 dimes, trailing only Savannah Morgan's career total of 526…Tse holds the Division III lead in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.84…With six blocked shots at NYU and Brandeis, junior Blair Ripley moved to 68th in the country with 28 blocked shots and ranks fourth all-time with 89 rejections and is six away from tying Coach Jackson for third place all-time.

Carnegie Mellon Tartans (7-7, 0-3 UAA)

Three straight losses to begin the UAA season have Tartans coming to Atlanta at the .500 mark at 7-7 on the season and still looking for that first conference victory. CMU is guided offensively by senior guard Makayla Filiere who leads the team with 12.8 points per game and is 22nd among Division III leaders with a steals per game average of 3.36. Sophomore guard Leah Weslock joins Filiere in double figures with 10.6 PPG while classmate Caitlyn Clendenin checks in at 9.3 PPG and leads the squad with 7.4 rebounds per game.

The Tartans are led on the sidelines by Jacquie Hullah who is in the middle of her ninth season with the team. Hullah owns a career record 274-259 in her 21-year coaching career and is 117-104 during her time with CMU. She is joined on the coaching staff by Samantha Crough.

Case Western Reserve Spartans (8-6, 3-0 UAA)

The Spartans are coming off a big weekend, having knocked off WashU for just the second time in program history followed by an upset win over No.-16 Chicago, giving them a 3-0 UAA record and tied with the Eagles for first place in the league standings. The team has won six straight entering Friday's matchup with Rochester.

Case Western Reserve saw sophomore Abbey Lawrence named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week after averaging 19.0 PPG in the two wins. For the season, Lawrence is averaging 17.2 points (second among UAA players) and 3.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 45.6% overall and 36.1% from behind the three-point line. In addition to Lawrence, freshman Isabella Mills has made an impact from the jump, starting in all 14 games and ranks second in scoring on the team at 10.4 PPG and first in rebounding at 7.8 RPG.

CWRU is guided by Head Coach Jennifer Reimer who is in the midst of her 13th season with the Spartans and was just named the hoopdirt.com National Coach of the Week. She is assisted by Kelly Muffley and Erin Gdaniec.

Series Records

Having won four straight in the series against the Tartans, the Eagles have boosted the series to 40-21 all-time and are 23-7 at home. Last year, Emory was a 56-51 in the game played in Atlanta and came away victorious 57-46 in Pittsburgh.

Against CWRU, the Spartans have the edge in the series 28-24 after sweeping the season series last year by eight and 14 points. In games played at the WoodPEC, the Eagles are 14-11.
