Emory Women's Basketball Upended at Home by LeTourneau

The Emory University women's basketball team dropped to 3-3 on the season following a 65-54 loss to LeTourneau University Friday night at the WoodPEC in Atlanta, GA.

Sophomore Izzy Munson led the Eagles in scoring with a season high 15 points to go along with an impressive five steals. Senior Tori Huggins pitched in her usual affair with 11 points and seven rebounds. Off the bench, freshman Erin Martin contributed seven points in a season high 21 minutes played.

The Yellowjackets had four players score in double figures with Keauna Whitfield leading the charge pouring in 17 points. The Eagles had no answer for Whitfield as she also snared 10 rebounds and combined for four steals and blocks. Allaira Jones heaped on another 13 points as well as eight rebounds and a block.

The Eagles did a great job of generating turnovers but couldn't capitalize on their defensive prowess only shooting 33.8% from the field and 20% from behind the arc. LeTourneau punished Emory on the offensive glass pulling down 19 offensive rebounds to Emory's 15 defensive rebounds. The Yellowjackets also put on a passing clinic whipping the ball around the court to the tune of 16 assists while the Eagles could only muster eight total for the game.

After keeping it tight for the entirety of the first quarter, the Eagles allowed an 8-0 run that saw themselves down 23-14 with 6:20 remaining in the second quarter. Emory managed to close the second quarter on a 15-8 run, highlighted by five points from junior Claire Brock, that brought the Eagles back within two at halftime. Despite Emory's best efforts, the two point deficit at halftime was the closest the Eagles would get to the Yellowjackets for the remainder of the game. A 14-2 run to open the second half busted the game open for LETU and never looked back en route to the 11-point victory.

The Eagles look to bounce back this Wednesday, December 1st at 6:00 PM when they take on cross-town rival Oglethorpe at the Woodruff PE Center.
