Women's Basketball Rolls Past CWRU, 71-50, Behind Brock's Career High 28 Points

The Emory University women's basketball team trounced the Case Western Reserve University Spartans, 71-50, in a Friday night matchup to bring the Eagles record to 9-4 on the season.

Junior Claire Brock simply could not be guarded, scoring a career high 28 points including six three pointers, marking her fourth 20-plus scoring performance of the season. Senior Anna Arato had another well-rounded performance, pouring in 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Sophomore Izzy Munson was the leading scorer for the Eagles off the bench, contributing nine points to the Eagles 21-point victory.

The Eagles played a great game all-around but it was the third quarter when they put the game out of reach. A scoring advantage of 28-14 in the frame was spurred on by spectacular shooting - to the tune of 50% from the floor and 67% from three - and intense defensive pressure that resulted in five turnovers for the Spartans. Emory never gave CWRU the chance to get into the game, holding them to just one made three-pointer all night. The Eagles also forced the Spartans into 16 total turnovers while just turning the ball over nine times themselves as ball control was clearly a point of emphasis for Emory.

The first quarter started off back-and-forth between the two teams but Brock went supernova to close the quarter, scoring 10 of the Eagles final 12 points to give Emory an early 19-12 lead. The Eagles didn't let up in the second, riding their consistent play on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court to a 35-23 halftime lead. Coming out of half, the Eagles scored on their first three possessions and thanks to an 8-0 run in the middle of the quarter, started by a pretty three ball from freshman Daniella Aronsky, Emory took a 26-point lead, their largest of the game, into the fourth. From there it was smooth sailing for the Eagles as they coasted to the finish line to earn the eventual road win.

The Eagles will close their two-game road swing in Pittsburgh, PA Sunday afternoon when they take on the Carnegie Mellon University Tartans at 2:00 PM.
