Women's Basketball Win Streak Halted by #7 NYU

The Emory University women's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 7 ranked New York University 77-44 at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

The Violets had four in double figures, led by Belle Pellecchia's 18 points and was one of two players to record double-doubles in the win as she corralled 10 rebounds. Natalie Bruns finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds while Jenny Walker went for 14 points and nine rebounds and Erica Miller had 12 points. Jordan Janowski nearly missed joining her starting counterpoints in double digits as she posted nine points.

For the Eagles, senior Anna Arato led all Emory scorers with 12 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Junior Claire Brock netted eight points and freshman Daniella Aronsky chipped in with seven.

Arato opened the scoring with a three-pointer 35 seconds into the opening quarter. Unfortunately, it was all NYU from there as the Violets outscored the Eagles 25-4 to end the first period in front by 18. NYU continued to increase its lead, holding Emory scoreless for a 12:45 span from midway through the second until late in the third, establishing a 64-29 advantage after three quarters. The Eagles ended the game on a strong note, outscoring the visitors 15-13 in the final quarter on the strength of nine combined points from Aronsky and sophomore Izzy Munson.

Emory, now sitting in second place at 5-2 (11-5 overall) begins the back half of the UAA schedule next week, traveling to the northeast for rematches against Brandeis and NYU.
