Women's Basketball Rebounds with Road Win at Brandeis

Women's Basketball Rebounds with Road Win at Brandeis

The Emory University women's basketball team rebounded from a tough loss its last time out to defeat Brandeis University, 76-65, in the first game of its four-game road trip.

Junior Claire Brock was phenomenal for the Eagles shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the field for a team leading 19 points. Senior Tori Huggins contributed 15 points and eight rebounds and improved her conference-leading three-point percentage by shooting 66.6% from behind the arc. Off the bench, sophomore Izzy Munson served as a spark plug scoring eight points on 50% shooting and added two assists. Freshman Daniella Aronsky guided the bench unit with a team-high four assists as well as five points.

Emory's shooting from behind the arc and defensive intensity were what ultimately led to the victory for the Eagles. Shooting 50% as a team from three-point range on 14 attempts, the Eagles made the same number of three pointers as the Judges on 11 fewer attempts. On the other side of the ball, Emory continued their season-long trend of being the aggressor on defense forcing Brandeis into 20 turnovers. On top of everything else the Eagles also dominated the Judges in the paint outscoring them 32-22 over the course of the game.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on the Judges thanks to a quick scoring flurry by Brock. Brandeis would battle back though resulting in a back-and-forth quarter between the two teams that would see Emory carrying just a single point lead into the second quarter. Despite the Eagles shooting 75% from three in the second quarter they weren't able to put much distance between them and the Judges as they carried a small 40-36 lead into the midway point of the game. The third quarter opened with a quick run from the Judges that saw the Eagles briefly lose their lead but that wouldn't last long. Emory ended the quarter on a blistering 10-0 run, with all 10 points coming from the pair of Brock and Huggins, that saw the Eagles with a 59-50 lead heading into the fourth. The Eagles wouldn't let up from there as the closest the Judges would get for the remainder of the game was six as Emory finished out Brandeis 76-65.

The Eagles will travel to New York City, NY for their marquee matchup against current conference leader NYU on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
