Emory Women's Golf Third At Golfweek Invitational

The Emory University women's golf team wound up the first day of action at the Golfweek Invitational on Friday.  The 54-hole tournament is being played on the 5.800-yard, par-72 El Campeon Course at the Mission Inn Resort in Howie-in-the Hills, Florida.

The Eagles rank third out of eight teams after posting a team score of 326.  No. 25 Centre is first with a 317 while No. 4-ranked Carnegie Mellon is five shots off the pace at 322.  No. 2 Methodist finished at 329 and is fourth.

Freshman Mariana Chong paced the Emory pack with a seven-over par 79 with that score tying for fifth place out of 40 entries.  Sophomore Ksheera Jalakam is tied for ninth overall after turning in an 81.  Rounding out the Eagle scorers were freshman Jessica Lan and sophomore Shriya Agarwal with an 81 and 86, respectively.  Freshman Rebecca Schiffman shot an 89.

Jillian Drinkard of Methodist carded the top score of the day with a two-over par 74.

Darkness suspended the first round with Oglethorpe and Huntingdon still on the course.

The remainder of the first round and the second round of the Golfweek Invitational will be held on Saturday.
