Women's Golf Well-Represented on All-UAA Team; Wang & Futcher Earn Top Honors

The Emory University women's golf team landed three members on the All-University Athletic Association Team and took home two major conference awards.

Freshman Sharon Mun and Ellen Dong were named to the All-UAA first team while sophomore Irene Wang earned a spot on the All-UAA second team and the UAA Sophomore Rookie of the Year Award. In addition, Emory's coaching staff of head coach Katie Futcher and assistant coach Christel Boeljon were named the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year for the first time.

In her first collegiate season, Mun led the No. 1 ranked Eagles in scoring with 73.1 strokes per round over 14 rounds which marked the program record. In the 2021-22 season, Mun earned two UAA Athlete of the Week Awards for her performances on the greens. Mun helped the Eagles to win their first-ever UAA Championship as she won in 19 holes in the three spot in the match-play competition against Carnegie Mellon in the finals. Placing first at the DIII Golfweek Invitational, Mun won her first ever collegiate tournament with a score of 219 (77-69-73) to help Emory secure the tournament win. Mun paced the Eagles in three of the eight tournaments she competed in. Mun also led the Eagles in scoring with a 211 (69-72-70) at the Jekyll Island Collegiate to help Emory secure the best three round total in program history (866).

Dong had an outstanding freshman year, averaging 73.8 strokes per round which is second amongst the Eagles contingent. Dong earned one UAA Athlete of the Week award this season for her best performance of her career. Competing at the UAA Championships, Dong was named the tournament MVP for her performance in helping the Eagles win the championship where she competed at the No. 1 spot. Finishing in second place at the BSC Panthers Classic, Dong posted the best two-round score in program history finishing the tournament with a 141 (68-73). Dong opened the season finishing tied for first place at the Lynn Schweizer Invitational where she carded a 144 (72-72).

In her first year with the program, Wang earned a spot on the All-UAA Second Team and became the first Eagle in team history to be named a UAA Rookie of the Year. Wang had a phenomenal inaugural season with Emory, posting an average score of 73.8 strokes per round which finished as the third best mark on the team. Wang set the single round program record at the MCC Women's Intercollegiate where she posted a first round score of 67. Along with Mun and Dong, Wang earned a 2 & 1 victory at the UAA Championship to help the Eagles earn the narrow 3-2 victory over the Tartans. Wang tied with Dong for the first place finish at the Lynn Schweizer Invitational to open the year after registering a 14 (72-72).

The Eagles are currently taking part at the NCAA Championships in Houston, TX as the team is in search of its first-ever national title.
