#25 Emory Women's Soccer Upset by Roanoke College, 1-0

The 25th-ranked Emory University Women's Soccer team dropped its second straight decision on Sunday afternoon, falling to Roanoke College 1-0 in the second game of the Roanoke Invitational. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 2-3 overall while the Maroons improved to 1-3 on the season.

Emory controlled possession throughout the contest, outshooting Roanoke 17-4 but it was not enough as the Eagles suffered the one goal defeat. Freshman Shivani Beall led both teams with five shots, four on goal.

Courtney Yoke broke a scoreless tie with an unassisted goal in the 58th minute. The tally was the first on the year for the senior.

The Eagles had several chances to tie it late in regulation but could not find the back of the net. With 5:05 remaining, junior Anna Gurney had a close range opportunity but her shot sailed high. 80 seconds later, Beall put a shot on target but it was stopped by Roanoke's Caroline Liebel. A short time later in the 88th minute, junior Kaitlyn Dorka rocketed one from just outside the box on net but it was blocked by a Maroon defender.

At the conclusion of the two-day tournament, three Eagles earned a berth on the All-Tournament Team for their overall performance: Beall, senior defender Hannah Meyer and junior midfielder Melissa Ardizzone.

Emory will look to snap its current two-game skid on Friday night when the team travels to Birmingham, Alabama to face Birmingham-Southern College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm eastern.
