The Emory University Women's Soccer team dropped a heartbreaker on Sunday afternoon, falling to 19^th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University 2-1 in overtime at the Woodruff PE Center. The Eagles fall to 2-2 in UAA play, sitting one game behind first place Carnegie Mellon and University of Chicago, now both at 3-1 in the conference after Sunday.

The Tartans netted the golden goal in the ninth minute of the first extra session to hand the Eagles the one goal defeat. Emily Tolmer knocked in the loose ball from right in front following the corner kick from Sydney Webber and the touch pass from Katja Brackelmanns-Puig.

Carnegie Mellon (9-3-1 overall) opened the scoring in the 22^nd minute of the first half and Sienna Stritter scored on the far shot after an Emory turnover. Stritter gained possession after the Eagles lost control of it near midfield. Stritter took several dribbles before launching a shot from 30 yards out that went just over the outstretched reach of sophomore Dani Staffin to give the Tartans the early one-goal advantage.

The Eagles (8-5 overall) responded in the 38^th minute as freshman Shivani Beall beat Carnegie Mellon goalkeeper Mia Keyser who drifted too far away from the goal before putting it into the empty net to level the score at 1-1 with 7:33 remaining in the first half. The goal was Beall's third on the campaign while junior Bahar Ulusan earned her first point of the year, dishing out the assist on the play.

The Eagles had several chances to win it before ultimately falling to the Tartans. Senior Cristina Ramirez had what looked to be the game winner in the 84 minute as she spun and looped a shot over the goalkeeper's head that looked destined for the far post. However, her attempt had too much spin on it and curved wide.

Ulusan had Emory's best scoring chance in the overtime period as she launched a shot towards the net from 25 yards out. But Keyser made a great diving save to keep the game deadlocked at 1-1.

Keyser finished with four saves on the afternoon while Staffin stopped a career-best eight shots. Carnegie Mellon outshot the Eagles 17-13 in the contest including a 10-5 margin in shots on goal.

Prior to the start of the game, the Eagles had a special on-field ceremony to honor their two seniors – Ramirez and Hannah Meyer.

Emory will be off until Tuesday, October 25^th when it hosts Brevard College in the final home of the regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the Woodruff PE Center.
