The Emory University Women's Soccer team returned to the win column Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory against Meredith College in the Esprit DIII National Classic, held in Raleigh, NC.
The Eagles dominated possession on Sunday, outshooting the Avenging Angels 36-3 including a 21-0 margin in shots on goal. 15 different Eagles recorded at least one shot with senior Melinda Altamore and sophomore Caroline Kolski pacing the team with four shots on goal each.
Senior Anna Gurney began the scoring, notching her first tally of the 2017 season in the 21st minute. Gurney found the back of the net from 10 yards out following the assist from classmates Altamore and Bahar Ulusan.
Altamore doubled the Emory lead to 2-0 in the 65th minute as she scored on a header from a Kaitlyn Dorka cross.
Junior Nikki Batt provided the 3-0 final margin in the 82nd minute with a marker off the the feed from junior Grace Edgarton in the 82nd minute.
Sophomore Haley Pratt and junior Dani Staffin combined to record Emory's second clean sheet of the season. Pratt improved to 3-1 between the posts while Staffin saw her first action of the year, playing the final 8:37 minutes.
The Eagles will host Birmingham-Southern College Friday night at 7:00 PM in the home opener, the first of two straight contests at the Woodruff PE Center.
