Emory Women's Soccer Tripped Up by #13 Christopher Newport, 2-1, in OT

13th-ranked Christopher Newport University scored in the 99th minute to hand the Emory University Women's Soccer team a 2-1 overtime defeat Friday night at the Woodruff PE Center. The Captains improved to 5-0-1 on the season while the Eagles slipped to 3-2.

CNU's Hailey Shaw provided a through ball from midfield to the top of the 18 before Carson Pokorny dribbled around a defender and put a shot past Emory's Haley Pratt from 15 yards out for the game-winner.

The Captain's Danielle Pratt began the scoring late in the first half as she registered her first goal of the campaign. Pratt, from just over the midfield line, played a ball towards net. The shot took a favorable bounce and went over the reach of a leaping Haley Pratt to give CNU a one goal lead right before intermission.

The Eagles' answered in the 60th minute as sophomore Caroline Kolski found the back of the net, firing one home from 20 yards out, off the feed from classmate Shivani Beall.

Junior Sophia Dillon had Emory's best scoring opportunity to win in regulation, getting off a shot from inside the six with four minutes remaining on the clock but was denied by CNU's Carly Maglio.

CNU and Emory will both return to the pitch Sunday afternoon at the Woodruff PE Center as the Captains face Berry at noon followed by the Eagles' matchup against Birmingham-Southern College at 3:00 PM.
