Emory Women's Soccer Blasts Agnes Scott, 7-0, for Third Straight Win

The Emory University Women's Soccer team blasted crosstown foe Agnes Scott College to the tune of 7-0 Saturday night at the Woodruff PE Center, giving the Eagles their third consecutive victory.

Emory has now scored at least five goals in three straight matches, the first time an Eagles squad has accomplished that feat since 1995. During that season, Emory had two such streaks of at least five goals in three straight games, the latter of which occurred through October 25th-29th against Sewanee (11-0), Maryville (7-0) and Clayton State (7-0).

Freshman Anne Otterbein notched two goals with junior Abbe McCarter scoring another and handing out two assists to headline the Emory offense on Saturday. Junior Nikki Batt added two assists with sophomore Caroline Kolski, junior Madison Phaneuf, and freshmen Yasmin Toy and Samantha Hilsee recording tallies for Emory.

The Scotties held the Eagles off the scoreboard for the majority of the first half until McCarter broke through in the 22nd minute. McCarter was left all alone on the left side as Batt set up for a free kick. Noticing the lapse in the defensive set up, Batt kicked it out to her teammate, allowing McCarter to take a few a strides before beating the ASC goalkeeper to the near post.

McCarter assisted on the next two Emory goals by Otterbein and Hilsee. In the 27th minute, McCarter provided Otterbein with a through ball inside the box which Otterbein deposited into the far post. Less than six minutes later at the 32:19 mark, Hilsee knocked in the loose ball from right in front following a McCarter corner kick to give her a goal in three straight contests.

Otterbein closed out the first half scoring in the 40th minute with her second goal of the match as she poked in the loose ball off a Batt free kick.

Kolski headed in a Melinda Altamore corner kick in the 49th minute to begin the second half attack with Toy and Phaneuf rounding out the scoring, registering their first goals of the season in the 63rd and 83rd minutes, respectively.

Emory travels to Rome, GA Tuesday night to square off against in-state rival Berry College before returning home to face No.-1 ranked Washington University Saturday afternoon in the University Athletic Association opener for both programs.
