#21/21 Emory Women's Soccer Win Streak Snapped by #2/3 WashU, 1-0

The 21st-ranked Emory University Women's Soccer team saw its three-game winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon, falling to 2nd-ranked Washington University in St. Louis, 1-0, in the University Athletic Association opener for both teams.

Despite outshooting the Bears, 9-8 overall and 4-2 in shots on goal, the Eagles were not able to find the back of the net to fall to 6-3 on the season. Emory got off to a strong start with all four shots on target coming within the opening 28 minutes of action by juniors Madison Phaneuf, Abbe McCarter and freshmen Samantha Hilsee and Anne Otterbein. But WashU responded over the final 62 minutes of play, holding the Eagles offense in check.

WashU scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute as Taylor Cohen netted her UAA-leading 10th goal of the season, heading in Caroline Dempsey's cross from just outside the goal.

The Eagles look to rebound Tuesday night as Emory host Huntingdon College in a non-conference matchup. Play from the Woodruff PE Center is slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
