Emory Women's Soccer Scores Twice Late to Defeat Roanoke College, 2-0

The Emory University Women's Soccer team scored twice over the final twenty minutes of regulation to defeat Roanoke College, 2-0, in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

Sophomore Shivani Beall broke a scoreless game in the 72nd minute, scoring her third goal of the season. Junior Abbe McCarter played a ball into the center of the box where classmate Sophia Dillon had a nice touch pass to an open Beall who one timed it past the keeper.

Just under 10 minutes later, senior Anna Gurney registered her second goal of the year to put the Eagles comfortably in front by two with 8:48 remaining in the second half. Freshman Lily Dresner's strike from just 30 yards out drilled the crossbar but the rebound went straight to a wide open Gurney who easily deposited it into the netting.

The Eagles finished the afternoon with 27 shots, outshooting the Maroons 27-6. Emory also won the corner kick battle, 5-3. Senior Melissa Ardizzone led the Eagles with four shots, all being on target. Sophomore Dani Staffin made four saves to preserve her fourth clean sheet of the season, improving to 5-2-1 overall.

The Eagles are back in action this Monday night on the road against Covenant College in the final non-conference contest of the year. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
