Emory Women's Soccer Closes Out Regular Season with Piedmont and Rochester

The Emory University Women's Soccer program wraps up the 2017 regular season at Piedmont College Thursday night before hosting the University of Rochester Saturday afternoon, beginning at 1:30 PM at the Woodruff PE Center.

Prior to the start of the game against the Yellowjackets on Saturday, the Eagles will recognize the senior class of Melinda Altamore, Melissa Ardizzone, Kaitlyn Dorka, Lizzie Garrett-Currie, Anna Gurney and Bahar Ulusan with a special on-field ceremony.

Entering the final day of conference play, the University of Chicago and Washington University sit atop of the UAA standings at 6-0 and 5-1, respectively. The Eagles are alone in sixth, one game behind Brandeis and NYU for fourth.

Saturday's schedule of games features Rochester at Emory, Chicago at WashU, NYU at Brandeis and Carnegie Mellon at Case Western Reserve.

NR/RV Emory Eagles (9-6-1, 1-4-1 UAA)

The Eagles dropped back-to-back road contests at Carnegie Mellon and Case Western Reserve to fall to 9-6-1 overall heading into the final week of the regular season. Freshman Lily Dresner tallied Emory's lone goal in the 2-1 defeat to the 9th-ranked Tartans while freshman Samantha Hilsee netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season on Sunday. Junior Abbe McCarter added to her team lead in points with her fourth marker of the year against the Spartans and ranks 11th among UAA leaders with 16 points on the year. Gurney and sophomore Caroline Kolski added points for the Eagles over the weekend, collecting one assist each.

NR/RV Piedmont College Lions (15-0-4)

Piedmont carries a 15-0-4 record into Thursday's non-conference matchup but are coming off a defeat to Covenant College on penalty kicks in the USA South tournament on Saturday. The Lions have seen seven players reach double-digits in scoring led by junior Cassidy Reich. In 19 games, Reich has recorded 14 goals and 10 assists for 38 points, all totals marking team-highs. Senior Tori Gillett has dished out nine assists to go along with three goals for 15 points. Juniors Jazmin Penando and Sarah Weber rank second on the team with six goals apiece. Piedmont, defensively, has shut out opponents on 13 separate occasions in 2017 with freshman goalkeeper Miranda McNalley recorded eight solo clean sheets while going 14-0-4 between the posts with a 0.45 goals-against average and a .849 save percentage.

Piedmont is coached by Timmy McCormack who is in his first season as the head coach after serving as an assistant coach for the women's program for seven years.

University of Rochester Yellowjackets (7-8-1, 1-5-0 UAA)

The Yellowjackets are in the midst of a 1-5 slide to drop to 7-8-1 overall and 1-5 in UAA play heading into the season finale on Saturday against the Eagles with the lone victory during the stretch coming in 3-0 fashion over Case Western Reserve. No member of the UR team has reached the double-digit mark in scoring on the year with Paige Gloster leading the way with eight points on four goals. In total, Rochester has reached the back of the net just 18 times in 16 contests. Emily Henry has added three goals and one assist for seven points with Liz Mastoloni chipping in with two goals and two assists for six points. Three different keepers have seen action in 2017, with the trio combining for a 1.41 goals-against average and a .791 save percentage. Madilynne Lee has highlighted the position for UR, posting a 4-1-1 record with two shutouts in nine games including seven starts. Rochester is led on the sidelines by Sike Dardaganis who has compiled an overall record of 43-56-20 in eight seasons with the program.

All-Time Series

Emory is unbeaten against Piedmont in seven all-time meetings, holding a 7-0 advantage over the Lions. The two programs last squared off in 2013 with the Eagles rolling to a 6-1 victory.

Rochester leads the all-time series 13-10-7 but Emory has controlled the series in recent years, owning a 4-0-3 record over the Yellowjackets in the last seven meetings. The two programs played to a 2-2 draw last season.
