Williamson's Two Goals Leads No. 24 Women's Soccer Past Piedmont, 3-0

Williamson's Two Goals Leads No. 24 Women's Soccer Past Piedmont, 3-0

The Emory University Women's Soccer team ran its record to 5-2 on Friday night, shutting out in-state foe Piedmont College, 3-0, at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

Freshman Arielle Williamson had a career game for the Eagles, coming off the bench and recording her first multi-goal game of her career to power Emory to the three-goal win. Sophomore Samantha Hilsee added a goal for the Eagles while senior Dani Staffin and junior Haley Pratt combined for the team's fourth shutout of the season.

The Lions looked to have struck first with a flurry of scoring opportunities within the opening minutes of the contest but thanks to two great defensive saves on the goal line and another Piedmont shot hitting the post, the score remained even at zeroes.

Williamson broke the scoreless tie in the 39th minute, tapping in a deflection from close range for her second goal of the season. Classmate Rachel White recorded her first career point on the play, earing the assist.

Hilsee made it 2-0 with her first marker of the year in the 53rd minute. Junior Shivani Beall sent a centering pass into the box where Hilsee chipped it over the Lions' goalkeeper's reach.  Williamson put the game away in the 70th minute, beating the keeper to the far post following the loose ball in the box.

The Eagles travel to Montgomery, AL Sunday afternoon for a date against another USA South opponent in the Huntingdon College Hawks. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM EST.
