Women's Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak to Six on Senior Day

The Emory University Women's Soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Case Western Reserve University, extending its season-long unbeaten streak to six games. With the win, the Eagles improved to 12-4-1 while the Spartans fell to 7-9.

Prior to the start of the match, the Eagles honored their nine-member senior class of Nikki Batt, Danielle Darius, Sophia Dillon, Jordan Doak, Nylah Hamilton, Abbe McCarter, Hope Morgan, Madison Phaneuf and Dani Staffin with a special on-field ceremony.

The Eagles did all of their damage in the first half, scoring both goals within four minutes of each other midway through the opening 45 minutes. Freshman Lindsey Breskow netted the first Emory goal on the afternoon, firing home a long shot into the far corner in the 28th minute for her third goal of the year.

In the 32nd minute, junior Shivani Beall added to the Eagles' total with her team-leading ninth marker of the season. Sophomore Samantha Hilsee fed freshman Arielle Williamson inside the six before Williamson dished it to Beall in front who put a shot through the Spartan keeper's hands for the goal.

Case Western Reserve ended the Emory shutout bid in the 88th minute as Lizzy Barna beat Staffin to the near post after receiving the pass from teammate Christina Hickson.

On the afternoon, the Eagles dominated possession, outshooting the Spartans 32-8 with a 11-5 edge in shots on goal. Phaneuf topped both teams with seven shots with two being on target.

Emory, which finished the month of October with a 7-1-1 record, travels to the University of Rochester next Saturday, November 3rd, for the regular season finale against the Yellowjackets. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 PM EST.
