Women's Soccer Keeps Rolling; Blanks Maryville for Sixth Straight Shutout

The Emory University women's soccer team was once again in full control Wednesday night, rolling to a 4-0 victory over Maryville College at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

The Eagles remain unbeaten on the season and are off to their best start since 2011, now standing at 7-0-1 overall. The Scots drop to under .500 with the loss, slipping to 3-4-2. Emory picks up its sixth straight shutout as well, holding Maryville to a single shot in the contest which came with just over five minutes remaining in regulation.

Sophomore Olivia McBerry paced the Eagles offense with her first career brace and added an assist, her second consecutive game with at least one goal and an assist. Senior Molly Miller scored for the second straight game and third time in the last four while classmate Lindsey Breskow also found the scoring column in the win.

Miller led off the scoring right at the six minute mark of the opening half. Junior Peyton Robertson launched a shot from 30 yards out that hit the crossbar, however Miller was there unguarded to corral the rebound and beat the keeper for the score.

Later in the first half, McBerry scored the first of her two tallies in the 33rd minute as senior Samantha Hilsee and sophomore Mia Han set her up to finish from the middle of the 18. McBerry then found the back of the net in the 62nd minute, firing a shot from the top of 18 following a Maryville turnover.

Breskow closed out the scoring minutes later as McBerry took advantage of another Scots miscue, dishing a pass to the penalty spot where Breskow one-tapped it home.

Emory rounds out the month of September this Sunday afternoon as the team travels to Charlotte, NC for a neutral match against the University of Lynchburg. First touch from Richard Barry Park is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
