Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision at Puget Sound

The Emory University women's soccer team suffered its second 1-0 defeat Monday morning, falling to Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA.

An early goal was the decision maker on Monday as the Loggers took advantage of a free kick in the 11th minute. Tess Carden sent the ball to the 18 box where Genny Jilka one touched it home for the score. It was Jilka's first goal of the year.

Despite not have having many chances in the first half, the Eagles reverted the course following halftime and controlled the ball on the attacking side for most of the half in search of the game-tying goal. Emory had seven corner kick opportunities across the final 45 minutes and outshot UPS 11-4 (5-2 in shots on goal) but were kept off the scoreboard.

Junior Mia Han delivered the first of the three strong scoring chances in the final stages of the contest as she had a one-on-one with the keeper out away from the goal however her attempt was foiled.

Freshman Riley Miller had the Eagles' second opportunity as she had a long-ranging shot that look destined for the bottom corner but a diving save from Puget Sound's Chaylea Tome kept the score at 1-0.

One of the final chances for the Eagles came with seven minutes left to play as a takedown in the box resulted in a penalty kick opportunity. Senior Kylie Hall stepped up to the spot for Emory but her attempt was sent away by Tome.

Tome finished the game with seven saves including five in the second half. Her counterpart, senior Emma Miller, finished with seven saves in the loss including an outstanding leaping one-handed save in the 85th minute to keep it a one-goal game.

Following three straight on the road to open the season, the Eagles will return to Atlanta and host East Texas Baptist Friday night for the home opener. Kickoff from the WoodPEC is set for 7:30 PM.
