The Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving program captured three event victories to highlight day two of the Miami Invitational on Friday in Oxford, Ohio. In addition, the Eagles tallied another 15 NCAA B Cuts at the meet.
With two days of competition in the books, the Eagles remain in second place with 550 points. The host institution, Miami University, leads the pack with 1,067 points through two days of events.
Senior Cindy Cheng won her second individual event titles in Oxford on Friday as she recorded the top times in both the prelims and finals sessions in the 200 Freestyle. She shaved over a second off her morning times, posting a mark of 1:47.84 in the finals. Junior Fiona Muir and senior Julia Wawer added NCAA B Cuts in the events with Muir touching in third at 1:49.79 and Wawer in fifth at 1:51.46.
Junior Julia Durmer notched the second individual victory for the Eagles on the evening, cruising to a win in the 400 IM with a time of 4:17.68. Teammate Ming Ong finished behind her in second in a time of 4:20.42.
Emory closed out the finals session on Friday with its third win of the night in the 800 Freestyle Relay with Muir, Wawer, Cheng and sophomore Caroline Olson registering a mark of 7:21.08 to win by almost six seconds. Olson added a pair of solo NCAA B Cuts, taking second in the 100 Backstroke (55.50) and was seventh in the morning session of 200 Free, touching at 1:51.90.
The 100 Butterfly saw three Eagles recorded NCAA qualifying marks with all three times coming in the B final. Freshman Lucy Daro placed 11th overall at 56.42 followed by sophomore Maria Kyle in 12th (56.52) and freshman Rachel Song in the 13th (56.79).
Juniors Ashley Daniels and Hannah Lally paced the Eagles in the 100 Breaststroke with Daniels taking sixth overall and recording a NCAA B Cut in prelims at 1:03.81 while Lally was 11th in a time of 1:04.42.
Rounding out NCAA qualifying marks on Friday, the Eagles saw both relay units notch qualifying times in the 200 Medley Relay as Olson, Daniels, Kyle and Muir registered a time of 1:43.66 in the early session and Cheng, Lally, Song and junior Meg Taylor taking second place in the finals, touching at 1:42.40.
Action concludes on Saturday with the 1,650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly and 400 Freestyle Relay. Prelims begin at 9:00 AM with the finals to follow at 4:00 PM.
