Eagle Swimmers Compete at Auburn Invitational

The Emory University Swimming and Diving teams sent a small unit of swimmers to Auburn University over the weekend in the final meet before the University Athletic Association Championships. The Eagles were one of six schools to compete at the meet, joining the host Tigers, Alabama, Florida, Florida St. and Georgia Tech in the pool.

Senior Hannah Baratz and freshman Calvin Furbee highlighted the convocation of Eagles at the meet, posting NCAA B Cut times at the three-day meet. On Saturday, Baratz turned in a career-best mark in the 100 Backstroke at 56.35. Baratz was also a member of the 200 Freestyle Relay team along with freshman Amelia Sicignano, junior Nadia Riverso and freshman Cailen Chinn that narrowly missed a NCAA cut mark by .05 seconds in the event, finishing at 1:35.68 on Friday.

In the final event of the meet on Sunday, Furbee earned a NCAA qualifying time of 1:50.70 to place seventh in the 200 Butterfly. He added top-15 times in both 100 Butterfly (12th, 50.48) and 500 Freestyle (14th, 4:37.14-prelims).

Adding NCAA near misses were Baratz in the 50 Free (24.09), Chinn in the 50 Free (24.13), 100 Free (52.19) and 200 Free (1:52.69), Sicignano in the 50 Free (24.03) and junior Evan Brock in both the 100 Butterfly (50.22) and 100 Backstroke (50.88).
