Emory Swimmers Compete at Midwest Invitational

The Emory University Swimming and Diving programs sent a small group of swimmers to the Midwest Invitational this weekend as a final opportunity to improve their times before next month’s NCAA Championships. The Midwest Invite was held at the Myers-McLoraine Pool on the campus of the University of Chicago.

The Eagles saw the men’s team finish fourth with 271.5 points while the women came in fifth with 181 points. The teams posted a combined eight event wins over the two-day meet.

For the men, freshmen Pat Pema earned two victories to lead the team with both coming in NCAA qualifying times. In the 200 IM, Pema touched at 1:51.26 and added a winning mark in the 200 Backstroke at 1:49.13. Classmates Will Schuler and Will O’Daffer collected event wins as well with Schuler claiming the 500 Freestyle win with a time of 4:32.65 and O’Daffer notching the top spot in the 400 IM at 3:57.02. Both times were NCAA B Cuts.

On the women’s side, senior Anya Koné recorded a pair of wins as she earned the top spot in the 200 IM (2:05.77 – NCAA B Cut) and in the 100 Backstroke (57.68). Freshmen Allie Dixon and Cailen Chinn add first place finishes for the Eagles with Dixon winning the 200 Butterfly (2:03.33 – NCAA B Cut) and Chinn taking the 100 Freestyle (52.13).

Next up for Emory will be the NCAA Diving Regionals this Friday and Saturday in Grinnell, IA before the team sets its sights on the NCAA Championships which will be held March 20-23 in Greensboro, NC.
