Eagles Capture 200 Freestyle Relay Title on Day Two of NCAA Championships

The Emory University women's swimming and diving team captured more hardware Wednesday night with the 200 Freestyle Relay team winning gold as the NCAA Championships continued in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The quartet of seniors Caroline Maki, Sammie Kass, freshman Penny Celtnieks and graduate student Taylor Leone claimed the third event title for the Eagles at this year's championship, winning the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:31.62. This marks the eighth national championship for the Eagles in this event since 2009.

The national title headlined four podium finishes for the Eagles on day two as Emory remained in second place in the team standings halfway through the competition. Denison University extended its lead as the Bid Red in now out in front with 281.5 points with the Eagles standing 85.5 points back with 196. Kenyon College rounds out the top three with 191 team points.

Following the win in the 200 Free Relay, Maki and Leone reached the podium in the 100 Butterfly with Maki taking fifth at 54.80 and Leone right behind her in sixth at 55.02. It is Maki's first-ever All-America finish in the event while this Leone's second straight trip to the podium in the 100 Fly after taking third at the 2022 nationals.

Junior Moshelle Borjigin notched the first NCAA honor of her career in the next event as she placed 12th in the 200 Freestyle, earning Second Team All-America status with a finals time of 1:51.19.

The night concluded with the 400 Medley Relay as the group of Leone, Maki, junior Megan Jungers and senior Anna Glowniak secured a silver medal finish, combining for a finals time of 3:41.15.

Emory looks to gain some ground on DU as the NCAA Championships pick back up on Friday with a schedule featuring the 200 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 800 Freestyle Relay and women's 1-meter diving.
