Emory University freshman Bridget Harding was 2-0 in both singles and doubles matches last weekend, helping to lead the second-ranked Eagles to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championships. Harding played in the fourth singles match and second doubles match with partner Katarina Su in each of the two contests during the weekend. After receiving a first-round bye, Harding did not drop a game on Friday in a 5-0 Eagles’ win over Webster University, winning 8-0 in doubles and 6-0, 6-0 in her singles match. She also claimed two key wins in Emory’s 5-2 win over the 12th-ranked Sewanee, winning 8-2 in doubles action and 6-1, 6-1 in the singles match. Harding has won nine-straight singles matches and is a team-best 24-4 this season, while going 18-7 in doubles play, including a 9-0 record with Su. The Eagles, now 18-3 on the season, will advance to the NCAA quarterfinals for the eighth-straight season and the 25th time overall.
Emory University sophomore Melissa Goodman was undefeated in three third-singles matches and a pair of doubles contests, helping lead the second-ranked Eagles to their 26th University Athletic Association Championship. During Thursday’s 9-0 quarterfinal victory over New York University, Goodman picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win against Laila El Dessouki. She earned a pair of wins in the team’s 9-0 victory over the 15th-ranked University of Chicago on Friday, guiding the Eagles to the conference championship match with at 8-1 win at third doubles with Rebecca Seigler over Sruthi Ramaswami and Lucy Tang, and a 6-1, 6-0 singles with over Jasmine Lee. Goodman capped off her weekend with a 9-8 (4) win over Nicholle Torres and Brooke Tsu at third doubles, and a 6-3, 6-4 singles win over Torres, as Emory defeated seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University 7-2 on Saturday. She improved to 14-4 overall in singles play this year (including a 6-0 mark as Emory’s no. 3 singles player) and to 17-5 in doubles action. Goodman and the Eagles will head into the NCAA Division III Championships with a 16-3 overall record.
Emory University freshman Anna Fuhr helped lead the second-ranked Eagles to an 8-1 win over sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins University at the Woodruff Physical Education Center on Saturday. Fuhr and doubles partner Michelle Satterfield, ranked sixth in the Atlantic South Region, upset the region’s fourth-ranked pairing of Ashnaa Rao and Shannon Herndon with an 8-2 victory in the first doubles match. She improved to 15-13 overall in doubles matches this season, including a 2-3 mark with Satterfield in first-doubles action. Fuhr and the Eagles won their 22nd-consecutive home match, and improved to 13-3 overall this season.
Emory University sophomore Michelle Satterfield won both her singles and doubles matches during the top-ranked Eagles 8-1 win over the 12th-ranked University of the South on Thursday. Satterfield teamed with freshman Anna Fuhr to win 8-4 in the first doubles match over Lindsey Liles and Bronte Goodhue, the top-ranked doubles pairing in the Atlantic South Region. She followed that with a straight-set win in the second doubles match, 6-2, 7-5 over Liles, ranked fifth in singles in the Atlantic South. Satterfield, who is the seventh in singles play in the region this year, improved to 9-6 in singles matches and to 10-9 in doubles play with the wins. The Eagles raised their season ledger to 12-3 with Thursday’s victory.

On Saturday, in a 6-3 loss to third-ranked Williams College, she accounted for two of the Eagles’ points with an 8-4 win at third doubles and a 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory at fifth singles. Harding and the Eagles bounced back to win 8-1 over 14th-ranked DePauw University on Sunday, with the freshman claiming an 8-6 win at second doubles and a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles. With the perfect weekend, Harding improved to a team-best 18-4 in singles matches this season, and to 12-7 in doubles contests. The Eagles are 11-3 in 2015.
Emory University sophomore Melissa Goodman was a perfect 4-0 in both singles and doubles matches during a West Coast trip last week for the second-ranked Eagles. Each of Goodman’s matches, played at fourth singles and second doubles with junior Beatrice Rosen, came against nationally-ranked opponents. In a 7-2 win against eighth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Monday, she won her doubles match 8-3 and her singles contest 7-5, 6-1. On Wednesday against Azusa Pacific University, ranked 17th in Division II, she pulled out victories of 8-6 in doubles and 6-2, 6-1 in singles, helping Emory to another 7-2 win. Goodman added a 6-0, 6-3 singles win and an 8-3 doubles triumph on Thursday in a 6-3 team victory over sixth-ranked Bowdoin College. She capped off her week by leading Emory to a 5-4 win at fifth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges with wins of 8-5 in doubles and 6-3, 6-3 in singles. Goodman is now 7-3 in singles matches and 12-3 in doubles contests this season, helping Emory improve to 9-2 overall.

Satterfield, ranked 20th in singles play in the Atlantic South Region, started her day with a three-set win over Millsaps’ Deena Li Kam Wa (ranked 10th in the region) in the first singles match, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8, helping the Eagles to an 8-1 win. In the team’s second match of the day, a 9-0 win against Agnes Scott College, she earned an 8-0 victory at first doubles with partner Bridget Harding. In the final match of the day, a 9-0 Emory win over Oglethorpe University, she teamed with Harding again to win 8-1 at first doubles, and claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles. After going undefeated during the weekend, Satterfield improved to 3-2 in singles matches and to 6-3 in doubles contests this year. Her efforts have helped Emory open the year with a 4-1 record.
Emory University junior Beatrice Rosen won both of her matches during the top-ranked Eagles 8-1 win over Brenau University on Saturday. Rosen claimed a 6-7, 6-4, 13-11 win over Fatyha Berjane in the first singles match. In doubles action, she teamed with Melissa Goodman to win the second match by an 8-2 score. Rosen and the Eagles improved to 1-1 on the season with the win.
Emory University senior Danielle Truitt won the singles ‘C’ draw at the Grizzly Open in Lawrenceville, Georgia last weekend. Truitt won all five of her singles matches in straight sets during the weekend, including four against Division II opponents and one against a Division I player. She clinched the tournament win with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory over Sandra Flores of West Alabama. In the second round of the draw, she earned a 6-1, 6-4 win against Pilar Ferrando of Division I Alabama State. Truitt finished her fall season with a 6-1 record in singles matches.
Emory University junior Beatrice Rosen finished third in the Division III singles draw at the 2014 USTA/ ITA Small College National Championships last weekend. Rosen, who entered the tournament as the fourth-seeded player, won her opening match of the tournament, 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1 over Rebecca Ho of Washington University (Mo.). After falling to eventual draw champion Ashnaa Rao of Johns Hopkins University, 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals, she bounced back with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kate Christensen of Vassar College in the third-place match. With the 2-1 record during the tournament, Rosen improved to 8-2 in doubles play in the fall season.
