Gonzalez-Rico, Harding Fall to Wesleyan in ITA Oracle Cup DIII Singles and Doubles Finals

Freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and senior Bridget Harding were upended by Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon in the ITA Oracle Cup Division III Singles and Doubles Championships at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, GA.

In the singles final, Gonzalez-Rico fell to the No.-1 seed Eudice Chong 7-6 (4), 6-2. Gonzalez-Rico battled in the first set, forcing the reigning three-time NCAA singles champion to a tiebreak. She opened the tiebreak with 2-1 lead but saw Chong swipe six of the last eight points to win the set. Gonzalez-Rico began the second set tied at 1-1 before Chong rattled off four straight points to win the set and the match.

In the doubles title match, Harding and Gonzalez-Rico saw their run end as Chong and Victoria Yu earned a 6-1, 6-1 over the Eagles duo.

Emory returns to action in two weeks as the Eagles close out the fall season with the Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, SC from October 27th-29th.
