Emory Women's Tennis Tops SCAD Atlanta, 9-0, in Home Scrimmage

The Emory University Women's Tennis team topped SCAD Atlanta, 9-0, in a home scrimmage Sunday afternoon in the final match prior to the ITA National Indoor Championships next weekend in Chattanooga, TN.

In singles play, the Eagles swept all six matches in straight sets and did not drop more than two games in any set. Senior Bridget Harding and freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico picked up wins on the first two courts, winning by 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 margins. At third singles, junior Daniela Lopez posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory and at fourth singles, freshman Stephanie Taylor earned the 6-2, 6-0 win. Freshman Defne Olcay and sophomore Emma Perelman rounded out competition at fifth and sixth singles, winning by matching 6-1, 6-0 decisions.

At doubles, Harding and Gonzalez-Rico coasted to the 8-1 win at first doubles while Taylor and senior Anna Fuhr came away with an 8-2 victory on court two. And at third doubles, Lopez and Olcay edged out their SCAD counterparts, 8-5.

Emory heads to Chattanooga, TN looking to defend its national indoor title and will face Sewanee University in the opening round Friday evening, beginning at 5:00 PM EST.
