Emory Women's Tennis Opens ITA National Indoor Championships with Win over Sewanee

The No.-2 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team opened the ITA National Indoor Championships with an opening-round victory over No.-17 Sewanee University, 9-0, on Friday evening in Chattanooga, TN.

Emory advances to the semifinals to face fellow University Athletic Association member and 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at 1:00 PM on Saturday. The Tartans were 8-1 winners over Washington University in its quarterfinal matchup.

The Eagles top doubles tandem, senior Bridget Harding and freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico, moved to 5-0 in dual matches after posting the 8-3 victory on court. On court two and three, Emory earned matching 8-2 wins to complete the doubles sweep with senior Anna Fuhr and freshman Stephanie Taylor taking care of business at second doubles and junior Daniela Lopez and freshman Katie Chang recording the win at third doubles.

In singles competition, Emory sailed through all six matches against the Tigers, claiming all six victories via straight sets. At first singles, Harding won 6-2, 7-6 while Gonzalez-Rico posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles. Lopez won 6-3, 6-1 at third singles, Taylor won 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles and Fuhr won 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Defne Olcay rounded out the Emory singles winners on Friday, earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory at sixth singles.
