Emory Women's Tennis Captures Second Consecutive ITA Indoor Championship

The No.-2 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team defeated No.-6 Pomona-Pitzer College, 5-0, in the championship match of the ITA National Indoor Championships held at The McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN. The win marks the second consecutive indoor title for the Eagles and fourth overall in program history.

Junior Daniela Lopez and freshman Katie Chang opened the match with a dominating performance at third doubles, taking the match 8-0. Senior Bridget Harding and freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico followed at first doubles with an 8-5 victory before senior Anna Fuhr and freshman Stephanie Taylor rounded out the doubles sweep, pulling out the 8-7 win on court two.

Harding and Gonzalez-Rico sealed the match win for the Eagles, earning the decisive wins in straight sets. Gonzalez-Rico put Emory in front 4-0 after her 6-3, 6-2 victory at second singles before Harding clinched the match moments later with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at first singles.

At the conclusion of the match, the Eagles held leads in two of the remaining four matches with Fuhr in front 6-4, 5-4 at fifth singles and sophomore Emma Perelman leading 6-3, 3-2 at sixth singles.

With the victory, the Eagles improved to 4-3 on the season and will return to action on Saturday, March 24th against Division II's Point Loma University.
