Top-Ranked Women's Tennis Upends No.-8 Amherst, 6-3

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis battled from behind to upend No.-8 ranked Amherst College, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon in Brunswick, Maine.

The Eagles fell behind 2-1 after doubles play with the lone point coming from Emory's top doubles tandem in senior Bridget Harding and freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico. The duo stayed unbeaten in the fall, earning their 13th straight victory with an 8-1 decision.

Emory took care of business in the singles portion of the match however, claiming five of the six matches to seal the win. Freshmen Defne Olay and Stephanie Taylor registered straight set wins for the Eagles with Olcay posting a 7-6 (5) win on court four and Taylor winning easily 6-2, 6-3 on court five.

Emory picked up the other three victories in tough three setters on courts two, three and six with all three coming in come-from-behind fashion. Harding at second singles 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, junior Daniela Lopez at third singles 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 and on court six as sophomore Emma Perelman registered the 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 win.

The Eagles rounded out the weekend with their third straight top-15 matchup as Emory faces No.-6 Tufts University at Colby College, beginning at 9:00 AM Sunday morning.
