Emory University sophomore Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico was named the University Athletic Association Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week after helping the top-ranked Eagles to a pair of wins over top-10 opponents this past week.
Gonzalez-Rico went 2-0 at both first singles and first doubles as the No.1-ranked Eagles collected wins over No.-3 Amherst (8-1) and No.-7 Wesleyan (7-2) this past week. Gonzalez-Rico earned straight set wins in both singles matches, winning 6-0, 6-2 over Jackie Bukzin of Amherst (#3 ranked on ITA) and 6-3, 6-3 over Victoria Yu of Wesleyan (#15 ranked on ITA). Gonzalez-Rico teamed with classmate Defne Olcay in the doubles wins as the pairing defeated Amherst's Bukzin/Chen, 8-4, and Yu tandem of Wesleyan, 8-6.
The Eagles will be back on the courts March 30th with a doubleheader against DePauw and Washington & Lee, beginning at 10:00 AM.
