Women's Tennis Cruises Past Rochester in UAA Opening Round

The top-ranked and top-seeded Emory University women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the UAA Championships Thursday morning, rolling past the University of Rochester, 5-0, in the opening round in Altamonte Springs, FL.

Emory got off to a fast start, steamrolling to a 3-0 mark in doubles and dropping three games total. Sophomores Katie Chang and Sasha Hartje blanked UR's Dyer/Waysack, 8-0, for the first point of the match before senior Daniela Lopez and freshman Jessica Fatemi followed with an 8-2 victory on court two. Sophomores Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Defne Olcay closed out the doubles matches, taking the No.-1 doubles point by an 8-1 margin.

In singles, sophomore Stephanie Taylor dropped one game total en route to a 6-1, 6-0 win on court four with freshman Emma Cartledge earning match point on court two, 6-0, 6-2.

At the conclusion of the match, the Eagles held leads in all four remaining matches with Olcay leading 6-1 on court one, freshman Lauren Yoon 5-4 on court three, Chang 6-0, 3-0 on court five and freshman Christina Watson 6-2 on court six.

Emory takes on Carnegie Mellon University in the semifinal round at 12:30 PM on Friday.
