Women's Tennis Trio Selected to NCAA Individual Championships

Three members of the Emory University women's tennis team have been chosen to compete in the NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Championships as announced late Wednesday evening via press release on NCAA.com.

Sophomore Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and senior Daniela Lopez were selected to take part in the 32-player singles competition and in doubles, Gonzalez-Rico and sophomore Defne Olcay will represent the Eagles in the 16-team field.

Gonzalez-Rico will be making her second consecutive appearance in the singles draw as she has compiled a team-leading 26 singles victories on the season. In the spring, she has amassed an impressive 14-1 record playing at the No.-1 singles position and is 26-5 overall on the year, giving her a two-year win-loss record of 57-12. Earlier in the fall, Gonzalez-Rico captured the ITA Division III Singles National Championship and advanced to the 64-player field at the ITA Fall National Championships which featured student-athletes from all five college divisions.

Lopez also will make her second straight appearance in the singles competition after advancing to the Round of 16 as a junior. This season, Lopez enters the NCAA postseason with an overall singles record of 20-6 and is currently tied for 14th all-time on the program's wins list with 75 career singles victories (75-28).

Gonzalez-Rico and Olcay will compete as a tandem in the doubles field after teaming up to post an overall record of 12-6 at the Eagles' No.-1 position during dual matches this spring. Last season, Gonzalez-Rico reached the semifinals of the NCAA doubles draw with former Eagle Bridget Harding.

The NCAA Individual Championships are set to take place May 24-26 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
