Goetz Claims ITA Singles Title; Teams with Watson for Doubles Crown at ITA Regional Championships

The Emory University women's tennis team added more ITA hardware to its' history Sunday afternoon, sweeping both the ITA South Regional singles and doubles championships at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, GA.

In singles, freshman Alexa Goetz became the latest Eagle to win the singles regional crown as she bested sophomore Emma Cartledge via three sets in the championship match, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. With Goetz's win, the Eagles have now claimed the ITA South singles title in each of the last 18 years.

Goetz reached the title match following a 6-4, 7-5 victory over junior Defne Olcay in the semifinals. In the other semifinal match, Cartledge topped classmate Christina Watson in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Later in the afternoon in the doubles championship, Goetz teamed with Watson to knock off Olcay and Cartledge in the all Emory affair, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Goetz and Watson are now the 13th consecutive Emory pairing to win the ITA South doubles title.

Goetz and Watson now advance to the ITA Cup which will be held October 17-20th in Rome, GA.
