Cartledge & Olcay Advance to Doubles Quarterfinals at ITA Cup; Goetz Reaches Quarterfinals in Singles

Members of the Emory University women's tennis team opened the ITA Cup on Thursday in Rome, GA with junior Defne Olcay and Emma Cartledge highlighting the Eagles' performances by advancing to the quarterfinals in the doubles draw. The ITA Cup is being held at the Rome Tennis Center.

In the doubles bracket, Olcay and Cartledge are one of eight duos still competing after picking up a straight victory in the opening round, defeating Kenyon's tandem of Erika Oku and Daria Beshentseva 6-2, 6-2. On the other side of the draw, freshman Alexa Goetz and sophomore Christina Watson fell to the top-seed out of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Catherine Allen and Justine Leong, in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

Earlier in the day in the singles draw, Goetz reached the quarterfinal round following a comeback, three-set win over Chicago's Nicole Semenov 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 but saw her run end in the round of eight, falling to CMS' Allen in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. On the other side of the bracket, Cartledge dropped her opening round match 6-0, 6-3 to CMS' Leong before adding a consolation round victory 6-4, 6-3 over Bethel's Grace Riermann.
