Georgia Gwinnett Tops Emory Women's Tennis in Spring Opener

The No. 3 ranked Emory University women's tennis team opened the spring season Friday afternoon, falling to reigning NAIA national champion Georgia Gwinnett College, 6-1, in Lawrenceville, GA.

The match began with the Grizzlies claiming the doubles point by virtue of taking two of three matches. The Eagles solo doubles win came on court two as the pairing of freshmen Alexa Goetz and Katelyn Thomas were triumphant by a 6-2 verdict.

In singles action, Goetz picked up the lone victory for the Eagles, taking down GGC's Emerald Able at third singles in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. The Grizzlies were victorious in straight sets in the five other singles matches to seal the win.

Emory looks to bounce back when the team hosts SCAD-Atlanta Tuesday afternoon in the spring home opener. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 PM at the WoodPEC.
